“I told you I wouldn’t let anything happen to you and I intend to keep my promise”
Slade
Our first encounter took my breath away.
Ten years later, he’s acting as if we never met.
As if we never kissed.
And he says all he wants from me is to protect his daughter from the people after him.
He says he can take care of himself, but I don’t believe it.
I know he needs saving, even if it’s from himself.
King
All I ever wanted was a clean slate for my daughter and me.
But the past has other ideas.
The man I’ve been hiding from has found me and he will stop at nothing to exact his revenge.
And Slade is here to protect me.
I never forgot about him, but I can’t tell him that. I can’t let him in.
And he can’t find out the truth about me. No one can.
Welcome to Mayberry Holm, a small island in the Atlantic full of crime, secrets and happily-ever-afters, and the ex-Navy SEALs that come to deal with them all.
REVIEW:
Here we are with the ever-increasing group of Navy SEALs who inhabit the small island of Mayberry Holm off the coast of Massachusetts. All of them are there at the request of their former commander because there is a lot of crime for such a small island and someone needs to take a stand since the local constabulary isn’t that interested in doing it.
In this chapter, we have two men, one a SEAL, and the other the son of a mafia boss. In the beginning of the story we have a hook-up scene in a bar between Slade and a stranger named Rex. Rex leaves the bathroom and life goes on for Slade, but he always wonders what happened with Rex and who Rex actually is.
Flash forward ten years to the present, and Slade runs into a man named King, a local dog groomer who lives on the island with his young daughter. Slade is sure that King is really Rex, but King denies it.
Slade ends up providing protection for King’s daughter, but there is far more to the story than Slade knows. King isn’t the other man’s real name. His real name will blow the entire story wide open, and perhaps put King and his daughter in grave danger. Plus, he knows Slade will despise him if he ever finds out who he really is, and the things he has done.
No more spoilers, I enjoyed this book as much as the others in the series and recommend it to anyone who enjoys a contemporary m/m fiction story with the mafia, dog groomers, and Navy SEALs all rolled into one storyline.
