When Police Chief Cisco Jackson is rushed to the hospital after suffering a heart attack, he has one request for Detective Ronan O’Mara: find a young mother who vanished without a trace. Ronan is itching to jump feet first into the search, but after recently being shot in the line of duty, promised his husband he’d turned his badge in for good.
Tennyson Grimm watched in horror as the drama of Suzi Barton’s disappearance dominated the local news. When Cisco asks Ronan to work the investigation, Ten worries that his bullet-prone husband will join the police chief in the ICU but agrees to do everything in his power to find the missing woman.
The investigation is rife with persons of interest. Topping the list are the usual suspects:
The husband, who believes she ran off with her night school professor.
The father-in-law, who never trusted Suzi or any other woman.
Her college professor who acts like he’s hiding something.
Lastly, study partner Jensen Hines, who’s interested in more than acing the final exam.
Who abducted Suzi Barton? Why? Where is she? Most importantly, is she still alive?
REVIEW:
Book 22 of just a classic paranormal mystery series. I’m starting to visit my thesaurus to find more descriptive words to review Pandora’s books. I’m running out of superlatives and feel I am going to become very formulaic in my reviews of her books. As usual, you must read all the books in the series. These books are kind of like a paranormal soap opera and you can’t miss a day or a book. If you do, you will be a bit lost in the plots.
I am always genuinely intrigued how Pandora always keeps these books fresh and captivating. She continues to stretch and enlarge the universe that Ronan, Tennyson and all the Scooby Gang inhabit. We are getting a glimpse into more of the world in which they all live. Salem PD has a more prominent role in this book, than it has had in a while.
With her wonderful prose, we are getting to see the trials and tribulations that families experience during their daily lives. Ronan is beginning to feel the draw to back in the line of duty. Ten is trying to come to terms with all that means and entails. The joys of parenthood are put to the test as Everly continues to come into her own with her gifts. She has created such a dynamic and engaging group of characters, that you just want to invite over for a BBQ and just hang out with them. I’m sure I’ve missed the nuances of her humor in the previous books, but I really enjoyed the subtle humorous exchanges sprinkled throughout the book.
A loud banging on the door startled the two apart. “Meeting in three minutes!” Jude shouted from the other side of the door. “Kiss each other at home!”
“Asshole,” Ronan muttered under his breath. “Why are we friends with him?” Ten laughed. “He’s your brother from another mother, remember?”
Of course, there is a serious note to this story, as another mystery is presented for Ten and Ronan to solve. I enjoyed how this one unfolded over the course of the book. I loved how the whole Scooby gang rallied to not only solve the mystery but step up to help each other out as needed. Pandora continues to redefine what found family really means.
If you want to know if Ronan rejoins law enforcement? If you want to know if Cisco survives the police chief curse? If you want to know if they find the missing woman alive or not, you need to grab this book as quickly as possible. Because I’m not going to reveal any spoilers. Keep them coming Pandora, I can’t wait for the next books in this fantastic series.
