Look up the word “average” in the dictionary you’ll find my picture. Average height, average looks, average smarts: average guy. Of course that’s also code for boring and ordinary. I’ve been a serial dater forever, twisting myself into the perfect person for my dates, but somehow I’m still alone. When I get offered a job in California, I wonder if it’s the universe telling me it’s time to start over. At least I’ll have time to do some thinking while I work on what might be my final job for Hot Dam Homes: renovating a luxury resort in a beautiful but totally isolated spot. Things get complicated when Tyler, my super-hot but way-too-young-for-me co-worker ends up on the same job. On paper we make no sense, but my stupid heart won’t let me stop thinking about him. Is he just my latest infatuation, or have I finally stumbled on something that could last?
Built To Last is a steamy, age-gap, co-workers to lovers, MM romance.
REVIEW
Now we get to learn more about Mason and Dylan’s cousin Sam.
Sam feels average. He’s not tall and charismatic like Mason. He’s not super smart like Gracie. Or super-impressive like his other cousin Dylan. He’s just average. Average height ✔️ Average looks ✔️ Average salary ✔️ even Average car ✔️✔️ Sam is just average. Being surrounded by much more that average cousins who are moving forward in their busy lives with their mates makes it even harder. But leaving his beloved PNW was never on his horizon but just maybe that’s what he needs. When the opportunity to move to SoCal to own with his buddy, a former classmate, he starts contemplating his options. But first he needs to do this next big renovation for HDH. And having the super-hot but secretive Tyler with him out on the Washington Coast is a plus. When things heat up Sam and Tyler need to make some decisions but will they bring them closer together and learn to trust and lean on the other when needed or is this just one more failed encounter?
Tyler’s story of triumph over so many adversities just got to me. Going into the service to be able to finally escape his alcoholic and neglectful mom was hard. Then what he went through while serving was even harder. But the final part was the breaking apart of Aaron and Tyler. It just showed how strong he really was but also highlighted how much he needed Sam in his life. And poor Sam. Even though he had always been a part of the bigger Campbell family, with all his cousin’s like siblings, he has always struggled with being not good enough no matter how hard he tried. I loved that being with Tyler showed him he could just be himself and that was more than good enough. I also loved that Sam recognized that Tyler didn’t need him to do everything for him. He is a strong survivor and they needed a partnership not co-dependency like Tyler’s Mom.
I really need to read Dylan and Mason’s stories still But it wasn’t necessary to enjoy this book. I’m kinda sad to hear that this seems to be the finale to the Hot Dam Homes series.
