Alex Hancock needs money to salvage his career. Finn West needs a spouse to stop his aunt from sabotaging his future. Can the two men make more of the fake marriage they enter into?
When Alex’s business partner runs off to Mexico with their company funds, the lawyer has little choice but to return to his hometown of Twilight Falls to marry someone he’s never met in order to raise the money to save his business. What he didn’t expect was that the woman he was meant to wed would turn out to be a gorgeous, brooding man.
Finn had resigned himself to a life without love after his wife’s death. Wracked with guilt at never being able to satisfy her in bed, Finn is shocked when his body and his heart starts responding to the man, he is tricked into marrying to stop his aunt from dissolving his trust fund.
Passions collide when the two men start exploring their relationship in ways neither of them anticipated. Can Alex convince Finn to embrace his sexuality and take a chance on them? Or will Finn run away from his only chance at true love?
REVIEW:
I really loved this book, it’s a tender romance from the most unlikely of beginnings. Two men who are forced by their individual circumstances end up married to each other, sight unseen. Both feel like their backs are against the wall and they have no choice but to take this most unusual proposal. I really liked that Finn’s Aunt interferes in his life, but with the best of intentions, threatening him with removal of his trust fund to kickstart him back into life. Usually in these types of books, the family is vile and horrible, wanting to steal the money for themselves. It was refreshing to find a family that really cares and wants the best for someone despite their refusal to end their isolation from life.
Alex is caught in a really difficult situation when his business partner embezzles funds from their clients and disappears. If he doesn’t get a large sum of money his business that he has built up will be ruined. Where do you turn when your life is so complicated and on the verge of disaster, back to the hometown, you ran away from. Back to the friends that despite living far away, still have extremely tight bonds of love and friendship, back to everything you thought you’d left far behind.
It was so funny when Alex walked into the marriage ceremony to find a handsome man, rather than the woman he was expecting.
There were many poignant bits of this book, that brought a tear to my eye. The obvious love Finn had for his wife and how much he grappled with his guilt about her death and their life together. I admit I routed for Alex and Finn from the beginning, they are so sweet and gorgeous together. I enjoyed how the tension between them ramped up and the will they won’t they, that is central to the storyline.
The meddling friends were funny and supportive, it was interesting to get a glimpse into the friend’s dynamics and relationships between all of them and the snippet into the tragedy that sent Alex running from Twilight Falls.
The book is full of romance, with second chances, a sprinkling of humour, friendship that has stood the test of time and a little adversity. I’m excited to see which of the friends is next to find love.
