Loving Lennox by KD Ellis
Out in Austin, Book 4
Riley didn’t know home wasn’t a place… It’s a person.
Riley would rather sell himself on the streets again than go back home. Only a chance encounter with a stranger saved him from becoming another statistic as a teenager, but now he’s aging out of the youth shelter and has nowhere left to go-until a kind act from the shelter’s director sends him straight to Lennox.
When Lennox’s older sister begs him to rent out his spare room to a kid about to become homeless, he gets way more than he bargained for. He expects an acne-spotted, Red-Bull-bingeing teenager. What he does not expect is Riley.
Riley, who has a dominant streak a mile wide but somehow submits so beautifully.
Riley, who has a tough exterior but hides a sensitive soul.
Riley, who might just be what Lennox never knew he was looking for.

The other boy, the red-faced one, kept staring at Lennox, but tore his gaze away when he realized he’d been caught. Lennox laughed as the two teenagers darted into the backyard.
Ally sighed and leaned back in her chair, shaking her head as she watched the door bang shut. “Careful. That used to be you, Bug, before Papa convinced you to act like his little mini-me.”
Lennox flushed, shame rising in his chest as the smile slid from his face. He dropped his gaze as the memory flooded him.
Six year old Lennox, clumsy with his big feet and even bigger shoes. He clutched his art project in tiny hands, proud of the big, gold ribbon stuck carefully on the corner. He couldn’t wait to show Papa. He’d spent dozens and dozens of minutes at his desk, even skipping a whole half of recess, just to finish it.
The big yellow house on the paper was too small, but he liked that. Papa looked like a giant, a great big superhero standing beside Mama. And he’d been so careful drawing Ally in her pretty pink dress, the new one that she got just last week with it’s pretty sparkly tutu and great big bow.
He knew he wasn’t supposed to bother Papa in his office, but this was different. This was special, and he just knew Papa wouldn’t mind.
Papa was going to be so proud of him.
Lennox flinched, struggling not to dwell on the way Papa had ripped the painting from his hands and thrown it into the trash, but not before telling him he’d never amount to anything if he didn’t get more serious about school instead of wasting his time on crap. Lennox had thrown away his crayons and picked out his very first blazer, just like the one Papa wore.
He hadn’t given up art for good—but he’d given it up for years. Even now, he got antsy when he picked up a paintbrush, like his father was looming over his shoulder, casting a shadow on the canvas.
“Oh, Bug, I’m sorry. I was just teasing. I know he was hard on you. I always counted myself lucky I was born a girl or he’d have had those same expectations for me,” Ally said, reaching out to squeeze his hand.
Lennox plastered on a smile. “It’s okay. I’m over it. Papa was probably right, anyway. They aren’t called starving artists for nothing, right?”
