Excerpt for His Bodyguard:
“You like me … don’t you, Nick?” Levi asked, his voice a murmur in the darkness.
“I like working for you.”
“No … I mean more than that.”
They watched each other for a while, and Nick felt a strong inclination to lean in and kiss Levi, but he held himself back. As though Levi had read his mind, he snuggled close and pressed their lips together. There was a tug-of-war in Nick’s mind. He should have stopped Levi, but now that he had him in his arms and had those soft lips on his own, he couldn’t pull away. The voice in the back of his head had told him to not do it, but Nick had already made the mistake of getting into bed with Levi. Now, he allowed his emotions to take control. There was no point in resisting when he wanted Levi so badly, and Nick didn’t want to ignore how he felt anymore. He pulled Levi to him and deepened the kiss.
Levi relaxed, his mouth moving in unison with Nick’s. There was a faint, low purr that seemed to reverberate from Levi’s throat, and his smaller body pressed tighter against Nick.
As much as Nick wanted to continue, he knew that Levi was still feeling the effects of the incident. He knew that he shouldn’t have allowed Levi to kiss him in the first place; he shouldn’t have reciprocated. Finally, Nick pulled his mouth away.
Levi whined before his lips grazed against the stubble on Nick’s jawline. Then Levi slowly kissed his neck. Releasing a breath, Nick enjoyed the soft caress. Levi was tempting him, and it was getting harder for Nick to hold himself back. It took everything in him not to press Levi into the mattress and take him. To make him his. Levi seemed so willing, and he even crawled halfway onto Nick’s body.
Every time Nick felt like he was getting used to Levi’s effect on him, Levi did something to tilt him off his axis. He had not expected Levi to kiss him, and it struck him that the younger man wanted them to be intimate. Nick loved the feeling that thought generated in him, but he knew that it was wrong. Although Nick had feelings for Levi, he didn’t want to lead him on if the reality was that they couldn’t be together.
Instead of letting Levi continue, Nick took ahold of the back of Levi’s hair and gently pulled his face away. “We can’t.”
Levi looked up at him. “I want you.”
Nick wanted the exact same thing. But now wasn’t the time. Levi was vulnerable and must still be in shock over the shooting. He was probably looking for a distraction. If Nick pursued this tonight, then he’d be taking advantage of Levi.
Levi stayed still and silent for a moment. Then his hand lightly trailed over Nick’s stomach, descending until his fingers brushed over Nick’s crotch. Electricity shot through Nick’s body at Levi’s touch, and he reacted from instinct.
“Hey,” Nick said as he caught Levi’s wrist.
