Miller Washington served with Wells, and the two men shared an attraction that neither of them acknowledged. When Miller learns that an old enemy is on the loose and that he may come after Wells, he makes a beeline to help. But he doesn’t expect repressed desire to blaze back to life.
Between renewed attraction and an enemy who will stop at nothing to get even, Wells and Miller must navigate the heat of passion too strong for either of them to contain while not letting their guard down, in order to protect Wells’s family and their second chance.
REVIEW:
What an exciting introduction to what is shaping up to be a fantastic series.
Wells Barnaby is staying with this sister Chrissy, a doctor, and helping care for her feisty 5 year old daughter Gelly. He knows that he has to get a job eventually but reconnecting with his sister and niece has been good for him. You can only travel the countryside for so long sleeping in your truck. It’s time to put down some roots. When Gelly notices a mean man starting at her Uncle Wells at the park he is surprised to see his good friend and Marine buddy Miller Washington standing there. It’s great to reconnect but Miller’s news of a evil terrorist that they help put behind bars somehow got out and there’s a good chance he is looking for both of them isn’t the news he wanted to receive. Thankfully Miller has agreed to help him protect his family. While spending time together both men finally admit that they have hidden feelings for the other and have had for a long time. But can they both save Wells family and form a relationship while having each other’s back once again?
I really, really liked this book! There was intrigue and danger while new love, or at least old feelings that were finally allowed to blossom, took hold. I know that Wells was worried about letting down his guard and I was happy to see that he decided to take the risk after all. The old phrase “it is better to have loved and lost that to never have loved at all” really fit his thinking. He had secretly pined for his buddy and comrade for years but thought he was straight. But, as Miller explained that it wasn’t the right time for them back then but now they have the chance.
I was surprised how the whole Salman part went down and the twist that it included. The author kept me engaged and wanting more.
I thought this was a great introduction to how Wells and Miller knew each other. How they reconnected and fell in love. And how Heroes Inc. was formed. I am excited to see how their cases in the future go. This may have been a quick novella but it is a great opening for these two men and the future people they are charged to protect while loving the man that they deserved.
