Love is a highway, and Henry just got Rear Ended
I’ve spent my entire adult life working eighty hours a week, chasing money, security… success. When my recent start-up went under, leaving me with nothing to show for years of grinding myself down to the bone, I’m not sure who I am anymore. I never thought I’d be forty-eight with no money, living with my brother, trying to figure everything out from scratch. But, here we are…
All that chasing didn’t leave a lot of time for romance or relationships either. Unless you count the occasional hook-up to let off a little steam. Now I have all the free time in the world… but who would want a middle-aged failure anyway?
When one of my most recent hook-ups turns out to be my new coworker, I’m starting to think the universe is having a good laugh at my expense. As if Auggie wasn’t tempting enough with all of the tattoos and his surprisingly sweet smile, now I’m spending all day watching him work. He’s covered in grease, with his overalls half zipped… is it getting hot in here, or is it just me?
He’s impossible to resist, but that doesn’t make the timing any better. Body work is one thing, but I’m determined to keep my heart out of it. If only Auggie would stop baking me cookies and touching me in ways that keep my engine running all night long. I think we’re going to need some coolant in here, because things are definitely heating up…
REVIEW:
The fourth book in the Big Bull Mechanics series and it tells us the story of Auggie and Henry.
Auggie and Henry met on a bar where they ended having one of the most unforgettable nights in their lives (even if they don’t know it yet at the time). Realizing that they are going to be co-workers after just made things a little bit weirder on Henry’s part.
Henry’s business went down and he is now living with his brother while he tries to get back on his feet. He is at a loss as to what to do now, he can’t come up with any new ideas for a new business. For the meantime he found a job at a mechanics shop catering to customers who comes through the door. And that’s when he found out that Auggie is his co-worker.
Auggie has long dreamt of having his own relationship. Seeing his friends find their other halves makes him a little envious and scared that he might not be able to find his. When he met Henry at the bar, he can’t help but fantasize about this particular bear of a man.
One of the reasons why I love Ms. K.M. Neuhold’s books is the fact that they are mostly low angst, very sweet and endearing. Her characters’s age range from early twenties to mid-forties. And I must admit, I love men who are a bit older.
Henry and Auggie have their insecurities about themselves and about their “relationship.” What they went through in their respective pasts have taught them some valuable life lessons (mostly in Henry’s part anyway). Life is to be enjoyed and lived. Life should not be working more than eighty hours in a week and chasing after money that you don’t have time to enjoy. Auggie is the epitome of “living a life.” He spends time with his friends, he takes out his best friend, Hamlet/Hammy(a cute little pig), for play time or just to play in the park. Although there were times when their insecurities overwhelms them, they found more reason to stick it out together. I am rooting for them.
Congratulations to K.M. Neuhold for another swoon-worthy book, I cannot wait for more books from this series, especially Shep and Riggs’ story (wink, wink).
