My life effing sucks.
First I come down with the worst case of flu ever, then there’s that giant, creepy dude who won’t take no for an answer. And as if that’s not enough, I get abducted! Or, I think so. It might be a fever dream, because running through the woods, being chased by monsters just doesn’t sound like something I’d do.
Asher
He’s a human Omega.
That in itself is a shock. But mostly, this just isn’t the way I imagined I’d claim my mate, not that I have much choice about it, now do I? The moon is up, and the Hunt is about to start. Soon, the woods will be crawling with Alphas, ready to hunt down an Omega like they’re nothing but prey. I have to reach my mate first, the alternative is unthinkable.
This is the first book in the series of the Black Creek Pack Omegas. The story takes place in an ABO, mpreg universe that isn’t kind to Omegas. There are also semi-shifters – i.e., there are no actual wolves appearing anywhere.
Each book follows a new couple and their way to their happily ever after, but there’s an over-reaching story arc that will continue in the following books.
This series is meant for 18+ readers since it contains lots, and lots – really, there’s a ton of it! – of highly explicit descriptions of sexual encounters between two men. Content warnings include: kidnappings, initial dub-con, violent death, blood, biting, and knotting. You’ll also find extreme size difference, possessiveness, growly Alphas, and snarky Omegas.
REVIEW:
A new author with a unique take on human/non-shifting Were mating.
Jamie has been in this small Idaho town for a couple months. He was lucky enough to get a job at the local bar. And even though the owner Richard is a a true Dick and pervert he has a paying job and good tips. Even though the local population of lumberjacks huge they are easy to work with. But that new table of giants not so much. So when Jamie is sent again to the restroom to fix the constantly broken condom machine he shouldn’t be surprised that one of those rowdies followed him in. When he gets away he runs right into the nicest smelling wall of muscles with a gorgeous face that serves as his protector, along side their mountainous sized bouncer Jeff. When he is finally able to go to his car to sleep, knowing that he is coming down with something yucky, he doesn’t expect to be kidnapped and then sent out to run from a bunch of horny men. When the lovely giant, Asher, gets to him all he can think is that this is the best fever dream ever. But it seems a little too real to be a dream???
I had never heard of or read non-shifting werewolves before. They do shift but not to a wolf They grow in size and develop razor sharp claws and elongated fangs when “shifted” And yes, all parts of their anatomy increase majorly in size. Also, if a Were mates with a human omega in heat but doesn’t give the mating bite, which appears to only be able to be done during a full moon, and impregnates them, then the baby won’t survive unless the human is continuously pumped full of their powerful and life sustaining Alpha mate’s semen. So needless to say there is a lot of sex and orgasms in this book. And creative ways to keep their mate full if they can’t have sex every hour. Or every 15 minutes of oral sex is involved. I’m actually surprised they had any energy to do anything else! One month of literally non-stop sex has to wear a body down. And, with the copious amount of semen that seemed to be produced, you would think that dehydration would become an major issue. I mean Asher could literally see Jamie’s stomach expanding from the amount he was pumping into him each time!
I became invested in Jamie and Asher. Asher is trying to reign in his pack after becoming Pack Alpha suddenly after his parent’s unfortunate accident. And old Were ways are trying to be reinstitute without his input or permission. The barbaric Omega Hunt was extremely distasteful. The claiming of omegas without consent gave me the creeps. The fact that said omegas had been kidnapped and forced into this ancient practice was deeply disturbing. Thankfully Asher and his group were adamantly opposed to the practice and all demeaning omega practices of the old ways.
I can’t imagine what would have gone through Jamie’s head suddenly discovering about Were’s and omegas. Then discovering he was one and now pregnant with his Mate’s pup! Talk about a brain scrambler. I thought he handled it better than most would when thrust in a completely foreign to him world. I loved that Jamie still stayed Jamie, spunky, feisty and outspoken. And a champion for the other kidnapped omegas.
I grew to become entranced with this new author’s created universe. The one thing I would suggest is that he invest in a good proofreader. There were a number of typos or wrong words but it still was a great first effort and I look forward to reading Milo’s story next.
