Love isn’t something I get to wish for. Ten years ago, my nephew was sold to traffickers, and it was my fault. I spent the next decade doggedly searching for him in the most awful places imaginable, unable to stop until I knew he was safe.
I finally track him down to Wild Heart Ranch, an equine therapy center in the heart of Texas with a secret mission to help victims of trafficking. While I get to know the funny, strong, disturbed man my nephew has become, I find comfort and companionship in Levy, the ranch’s tattooed, pierced, much younger equine therapist.
My usual one-night-stand protocol isn’t holding up, and I can’t find it in myself to care. We’re kindred spirits, Levy and I, both of us having survived so much. Falling into bed with him is as easy as breathing.
Believing that we both deserve love, however, is the hard part.
Savior Complex is a hot age-gap romance that features a silver fox with a past, an equine therapist with imaginative piercings, and one helluva family reunion.
REVIEW:
Note: While this is the third book in this series, it is a spinoff from two other series of this author’s, Rebel Sky Ranch and Wrecked: Guardians so there are a number of crossover characters. There are also major spoilers for the previous books.
Whew! This is a kind of a hard book TBH, but it’s worth it. There is a bit of violence here but also a great HEA.
Javier, Ant’s uncle, is a new character in this series and he is quite the revelation. At first, nobody is sure they can trust him but after a thorough background check, it’s clear that his mission is similar to Charlie’s and the Bash brothers 🙂 He’s been through it while he’s spent years searching for Ant! He has seen a lot so he’s sort of broken knowing what Ant has been through. Levy has been through a lot as well. They are definitely attracted to each other, but neither has done relationships. Levy has poured his soul into this work and he and his brother Bram have a system for working through things. Javier and Levy both want to help Ant in his recovery but it’s not easy. Ant believed that his family didn’t want him and that’s why he was sold in the first place 🙁 It’s hard for Ant to let go of some things and his mind has made him forget other things as a protective mechanism.
Javier and Levy together are fire! They are both passionate men and it shows. There are a lot of things they are each still working on overcoming in their own histories. The found family on the ranch is critical to helping all of these men heal from their own traumas. Together these two guys are able to grow into the people they are meant to be and finally find some peace and happiness.
If you are a fan of Kelly Fox’s series, you will really enjoy the crossovers and cameos from other books. I really enjoy the interplay between all these groups. Ms. Fox writes engaging and gritty stories that delve into some of the darker parts of our society, but there is always a happy ending and in this case some just desserts meted out as well. A really good story here and I cannot WAIT for the next one. There are more happy endings to be had for this band of brothers.
