After years under the influence of one trauma or another, my life is finally on the track of my dreams. My fiancé had moved in and made my house a home, I’ve acquired friends (not named Jules), and I’ve made progress dealing with my past.
But crime doesn’t stop just because my life is coming together. A body’s been found two cities over with a peculiar clue that warrants our attention. One victim leads to another, and before long, it’s obvious we’re on the hunt for a serial killer. As the body count rises, and the clues left behind get closer to home, the links between the victims lead us to a place that will challenge us all personally, and emotionally.
And then a phone call comes in and turns the rest of my life upside down.
The tailspins that follow has me doubting I’ll ever be the man the people in my life deserve, and this case takes me isn’t doing me any favors. It’s a mad dash between my life and work to see what will undo me first, and despite the progress I’ve made, and the undying love of Alex, I’m not sure I can stop it from tearing everything I’ve fought for apart.
REVIEW:
This is the third book in B.H. Lynn’s Stay Grounded series. Disclaimer- Please read the series in order as this story picks up from where book two ended. The universe B.H. has created for this series, just gets better and better. She continues to build on the bones and creativity of the original story. I am enjoying all the world building in this series. Her characters, main and side are getting even more depth behind them as this series goes on. Trevor and Alex’s relationship is moving towards the alter and is causing them a bit of angst, you’ll have to read this one if you want to see if they make it to the altar. As with the previous stories there is a case to solve in this book. The murder mystery is well developed, and the clues are just enough to move the story along, but don’t give away the mystery, at all. B.H. does not shy away from incorporating a little amount of extra angst for her characters to deal with.
I shook my head, tears stinging the corners of my eyes as I went about making up our plates like nothing was wrong. How was someone supposed to act when they found out that their father’s dying anyway? “Well, nothing we can do to stop it. “I took another long pull from the whisky bottle, the burning sensation hurting just right as it went down.
Themes continue to be a big part of this series. Hurt/comfort is still a major theme as Trevor works through his PTSD. With the help of many people throughout the book, he is learning how to manage and deal with his PTSD. Found family also continues as we meet more side characters that enhance and move the storyline along.
Sexy times continue to be well done and storyline driven. I found this one to be the best book in the series. It has the best storyline, themes, characters and worldbuilding. All previous loose ends are wrapped up and create the backbone of the happy ending for Trevor and Alex. I hope there are more books in this series, as I have really come to love Trevor and Alex. I highly recommend this book and series. I’m excited to see what else this author writes.
