What does a clumsy hottie do when he meets a handsome detective he’s sure is out of his league?
Beau is deadly serious when it comes to his job as a homicide detective for the LVMPD. He also has a taste for the finer things in life, but no time to enjoy much of anything with such a heavy caseload. How could he when there’s a serial killer terrorizing the streets of Las Vegas?
Investigative Technician Austin never met a snarky joke he didn’t like, or a set of stairs that couldn’t trip him up. One night after a devastating episode at work, Austin sees something else he likes. However, there’s no way the gorgeous detective he’s spotted around the station would be interested in a goofy klutz like him.
Beau and Austin’s worlds collide when Austin is sent to pick up some evidence at the station. Amidst a myriad of twists and turns in the troubling serial killer-style murders of Vegas conventioneers, Austin and Beau discover there’s more to each other than they assumed.
Can they make a true connection despite their differences? Or will the killer have the final say?
Note: Justice Prevails is the third book in the exciting first responder/crime series, Sin City Uniforms. It was previously published with a different cover under the same title. This edition has been re-edited, but there is no additional content. It can be read as a standalone, but the series is best enjoyed in order. Triggers include drunkenness, descriptions of death, peril and homeless teens. You can expect a high stakes romance between two men who are complete opposites, steamy interludes plus a chilling suspense mystery.
REVIEW:
Losing an old friend has Austin drowning his sorrows at a local bar. When a scuffle breaks out, Detective Beau comes to his rescue. Austin’s intoxication left him with no filter, fueling the sparks between them. However, long ago, Beau had his heart crushed and wasn’t in a rush to repeat the experience, especially with someone who wasn’t generally his type. Sure, Austin was cute, but was that enough for him to get involved? Then inter-office politics and a crime involving a serial killer throw them together again.
Justice Prevails is the third book of the Sin City Uniforms series – and thus far, it is my favorite. Detective work, action, and emotion are all contained within the pages, but I mostly connected to the main characters.
The story is told in the third person from the viewpoints of Austin and Beau. Worldbuilding mostly centers around social occasions, the office, and Beau’s case. Each scene gave me enough to experience the situation alongside the characters. I really liked Austin and Beau – their personalities and problems are very believable. I could not only imagine walking into a Vegas police station and hearing about them but virtually any law enforcement office.
After a long time of being mentally chastised, Austin has very low self-worth. Under the self-deprecating sarcasm is a clumsy, messy, huge-hearted human being. He admits to not having the perfect body, tends to deflect from anything serious, and says the first thing that comes into his head. Beau also has a loss in his past, seeing many similarities between Austin and his brother. The link sparks a need to protect Austin, and in doing so, Beau gets to know the man beneath the veneer. Add into the mix Beau’s frustration over the recent murders, where Austin gives Beau the support he needs to plow on, and what we have is an engaging, emotional page-turner of a story – one that I thoroughly enjoyed.
