TITLE: Good Behavior
SERIES: Wild Heart Ranch
AUTHOR: Kelly Fox
PUBLISHER: Self-published
LENGTH: 296 pages
RELEASE DATE: April 20 , 2022
BLURB:
From USA Today Best-Selling Author Kelly Fox comes a spicy forbidden romance between an ex-con and his prison therapist.
There’s not much I miss about prison, save for the buttoned-up therapist who doled out subtle commands and generous praise in equal measure. We never spoke of the crackling tension between us, but every time he straightened my posture or called me a good boy, we knew what was going on.
Now, over a year after my early release for good behavior, we find ourselves in the same small Texas town, connected to the same ranch, appropriately named Wild Heart.
As our sexy, unspoken dynamic fires up again, we become involved with the ranch’s secret mission—to rescue and support people who’ve been trafficked. Between harrowing missions and our escalating passions, there’s no way for us to stop what’s coming next.
And we don’t want to.
Good Behavior is a slightly murderous forbidden romance that features a a heavily tattooed ex-con, a therapist who knows better, and a whole lot of bad behavior.
Wild Heart Ranch is a spin-off of the Rebel Sky Ranch series. All of my series have crossover elements but can be enjoyed on their own. Fair warning—you may find yourself wanting the backstory.
No cliffhangers, and the HEA is always guaranteed. #murderswoon
REVIEW:
Note: While this is the second book in this series, it is a spinoff from two other series of this author’s, Rebel Sky Ranch and Wrecked: Guardians so there are a number of crossover characters. There are also major spoilers for the previous book.
Ignacio, aka Nacho works for the Jennings brothers fencing company. He’s an ex-con who has made a clean start. He’s sober and making progress in his life – living in a trailer and working his job and succeeding. He ended up in prison thanks to his cousins “business” that he knew was wrong. While in prison, he has some trouble and he’s assigned a therapist while in solitary who will determine if he’s still a good candidate for early release. That therapist is Abraham Barlowe.
Dr. Barlowe has had suffered a professional blow and he wants to help Igancio in the worst way. There is a dynamic between them. He never crosses the line exactly, but he likes the exchanges between them. He has set Ignacio on the path to hopefully a successful life on the outside.
When Nacho runs into Bram, it’s not what he expects. It’s been some time and he’s a surprise. He’s now working for the Wild Heart Ranch along with his brother Levy who is an equine therapist. Bram specializes in trauma therapy and he’s working with Charlie and Justin at their ranch with survivor of human trafficking. He and Bram try to keep their relationship platonic, but it’s clear that there is white hot chemistry between them. As much as Bram tries to keep his distance, his good intentions are overridden by his desire. For his part, Nacho enjoys revving up the good doctor 😉
While all this is developing, Ant, a survivor, is working with Nacho and also working on getting himself healed from his trauma. Bram and Levy are doing their best to help but they want to do more. They ask Charlie and Erik to help with their clandestine search and rescue missions. At first Charlie and Erik are reluctant, but they agree to let them help with a more controlled rescue. Pretty soon the guys want in all the way. There is a lot of stuff going on with the human trafficking that pulls everyone in to help. While there is danger and uncertainty, the guys pull together to save as many a they can and then put them on the path to recovery.
I really enjoyed this story, but I’ll be honest – I think it’s more enjoyable if you’ve ready the previous book and at last some of the crossover series to have a better idea of the dynamic and relationships between these people. There has been a LOT of trauma to most of the major characters in these series and it’s not necessarily intuitive from this story why these people do what they do and how they are all connected. This story is plenty steamy between Nacho and Bram. The “taboo” is sort of minor since the therapist and patient dynamic has been over for some time officially and they reconnected post that period. The kink between them is hot and they are clearly consenting adults who have a real relationship. I really loved seeing the other beloved characters from other series. I hope that we get a book that gives Ant an HEA though 😉 For fans of Kelly Fox’s books and series, I think you will really like this one too!
