It was supposed to be a quick trip to another pack’s territory. Just long enough to second his brother when Tobias faced the challenges that had been thrown his way when a poorly thought-out decision led to a series of chaotic and unfortunate events. Like everything else in his life, nothing turned out the way Lucien had planned. A confrontation in council chambers nearly costs him his tail and earns him a couple of bondmarks on his wrists. It’s scary, considering all the secrets he keeps. Good thing for him, his mates are hiding just as much as he is.
Considered a prince of the north, Arctic wolf JD has spent years trying to make a difference, helping displaced and stolen wolves find their way back home. It sucks to discover that rather than praying for a miracle, some families are directly responsible for the misfortune of the wolves they should have fought to protect. That’s okay, their failure is JD’s strength, and he prides himself on fighting for those who can’t fight for themselves.
Speaking of fighting, Brooks Hagan has been putting his life on the line for other wolves for over twenty years. He’s tired, his wolf and his body are weary and what he needs most is some downtime and tender loving care. Unfortunately, there is a threat to their pack worse even than the Red River Outlaws they’ve recently defeated. Bears. But whether they are actively attempting to take over Comet Lake, or the unwitting pawns in another’s game is still up for debate. Until that’s settled, Brooks can’t spend the kind of bonding time with his mates that he’d like to. Instead, the three of them spend their days brainstorming ways they can help save the pack at Comet Lake.
If they can’t, they won’t have to worry about whether or not they can make a relationship work, they’ll be too busy running for their lives.
REVIEW:
Be ready for this one and find yourself a place for solitude so you don’t miss a thing in this action packed book!
Lucien was just suppose to go with his Granpe to help out with his litter mate/brother who, through a series of stupid choices, wound up behind bars at the Comet Lake Pack in the Northwest, farm from his bayou home. What he never expected was to wind up with freaking bond marks with one of the elite council members and his MC mate from the Howling Devils MC! But mated they are and now the council has decided to only grant Lucien a four month visa and the MC has banned him from their properties. How is he suppose to bond with his mates with his all hanging over their heads and kuttes being tossed aside.
I really loved the older, established lead characters in this book. Brooks is Zane’s adoptive father that is not only a senior member of the Pack council but helped found the MC and is the liaison between the two groups. But that is all falling apart because of the stupid decisions that those that he has worked hard for and with are turning their backs on him and his mates. Lines are being drawn in the sand and sides are being chosen.
This book also deals with physical malformation that limits a wolf’s reproduction abilities and hampers his sex life. It also deals with another mate with a dangerously high blood pressure that stress is making worse. And the youngest mate has sickle cell disease.
I loved that the author took tough guy JD and showed his softer, more vulnerable side while Lucien was allowed to be as dynamic as he was. Then add in Brooks, who holds them together and these three were perfect for each other…flaws, secrets and all.
I loved when Lucy came out to play and turned her men into her own playthings. She/he might be smaller in stature but makes up in a huge and powerful demeanor. I am still a bit confused about the both sexes dynamic that some of these wolves seem to possess. But it sure made for some very sexy playtimes.
I would highly recommend that you read this series in order. The story line continues with introduction of new characters, catching up with some past favorites and getting to know side charters better. I personally can’t wait for the next book. The dynamics between Baz and Charlie have me intrigued and poor Kale, that Lucien and JD rescued, is an unknown yet that I want to know more about.
