REVIEW:
I have discover that if I want to disappear into the enchanted land of dragons and their families the Minerva Howe’s series are the place to escape from reality.
When Lake’s betrothed dies in a freak accident he loses literally everything. They take his Heartstone and destroyed it and now he is just awaiting is death locked away in a tower. When Skye, his older brother and seer of their clan, sneaks him out to try and save him he doesn’t expect to live much longer. A dragon without his Heartstone doesn’t just lose his magic…he soon will just perish. What Lake doesn’t expect is that one of his rescuers is not only his hero but, it turns out, his mate. Now Boone and Lake are on a new mission…find Lake a new Heartstone before it’s too late!
I haven’t read of a Heartstone and dragons before so this was a new twist for me. It took me a bit to realize that Norville, the rich and powerful dragon he was betrothed to wasn’t actually his mate. It turned out that the omegas were auctioned off to the aristocrat alphas. Having the good fortune to not only be saved from that tower and soon death by the Alpha that turned out to be his mate was what the sweet omega deserved. Not those bastards that thought that breaking his heartstone as an offering to the elder gods because he had not completed his bond was barbaric. And Boone was the perfect mate for him. Boone had never dreamed he would mate but his heroic efforts on behalf of discarded omegas was richly rewards.
I loved how Cain’s clan welcomed the sheltered and broken omega into their found family. This clan is shaping up to be one of my favorites of Minerva’s Dragon series’s. The search and rescue of the vulnerable and discarded is always a special trope for me. Adding in the strength from Skye’s rescue and the dragons that came with him will make them that much stronger of a clan. However I see problems that will probably arise from traditional, old school clans not taking this new found clan family lightly.
I can’t wait for the coming books. Of course I want Boone’s brother Durango’s HEA and his comrade rescuer Reno’s too. I see the longing that they have for what Boone and Lake got and they long now to find their mates also now that the possibility is real. I also see them already moving into more of a leadership role and staying back most of the time to train all the new alpha’s that have been tossed out by their clans and find a home at Cain’s sanctuary. I also really want Skye’s story and then, ultimately Cain’s. I know we are promised Dexter and James’s story next. They really are the key and cornerstone to all the future success stories.
