When your imaginary boyfriend turns up in your hometown, marriage is the only option.
I’m not anti-relationship, but my life is good right now, and love is not a priority. Too bad my grandmother disagrees. People say she’s scary, and sure, some of her enemies went missing under mysterious circumstances, but she loves me and wants the best for me… which, right now, is marriage. The matchmaking is a lot, and she’s not letting up. What’s a demon to do except invent a long-distance boyfriend?
That backfires hard when the one-night stand I based my fake boyfriend on arrives in our tiny village. Garrett’s here to help our cut-off town assimilate with the rest of the Community of Species. He’s not expecting to find he has a boyfriend he knew nothing about.
It doesn’t take me long to convince him to agree to my new plan. I need the matchmaking to stop; he needs our insular little community to accept and trust him. The perfect solution: marriage. A business agreement with a time limit.
Just business.
Until he demands more. A sexy, nerdy hellhound in my bed isn’t a deal breaker.
But as we get closer to our end date, it gets harder for me to imagine life without him. And when my little cousin goes missing, it’s Garrett who saves the day… and reveals secrets the village didn’t know we had.
In this hilarious spin-off from the Hidden Species series, Gideon’s cousins get their time to shine… beginning with Asher and his brand-new hellhound husband.
REVIEW:
What a fantastic first book in the spin-off series of Hidden Species. It’s not a requirement that you’ve read that series to read this one, but it would be of great benefit to you – as the reader, since many characters from that series are mentioned in this new series by Louisa Masters. I have actually been anxiously waiting for this new book to come out.
I just love the universe she’s created for these series. With this new spin off she has continued to expand the book verse. Her worldbuilding is top notch and is extremely consistent. Louisa describes a particularly harrowing drive up the mountain to the main location in this book and it reminded me of drives I’ve taken on Going to the sun road, in Glacier National Park.. The road is extremely windy, and the drop offs are steep and intense. I could relate to the characters difficulties traversing that section of the road.
Another round of excellent character development is found in this book. Garrett and Asher lead the pack with in-depth characterizations which leads to detailed and multi layered side characters as well. There is a side character named Isaac and he is just adorable.
At eight on Saturday morning, I put down my mug of tea, push aside the plate bearing toast crumbs, and call Alistair. I’ve deliberately timed it to wake him in the middle of the night.
The line rings four times before connecting, and all I hear is a muffled groan.
“Alistair?”
“I hate you,” he grumbles, his voice rough with sleep.
“Good morning! How’s your life been lately?”
“Whyyyyyy do you hate me?”
I scoff. “You can’t ask people questions like that, Alistair. They’ll answer you, and the list is long.”
Of course, we have lots of humor in this book. The sexy times are also there and fairly hot. Who knew Hellhounds had barbs. I highly recommend this book. It is a great addition to this universe, and you should run to your computer, phone, or eBook and purchase this book. I anxiously await the next book in this series.
