Themes: Identity struggle, murder, unrequited love, casual sex
How do you solve a murder…
… When you’re the prime suspect?
Blurb
A body cut up into pieces and left in Highgate Wood. It sounds like the most exciting case that private detectives Ram and Will have had to deal with since leaving their FBI training and returning to the UK.
As each new body is piled up amongst the trees, the stakes get higher – and Serial Investigations London embraces their first real challenge.
But Ram’s rock star lifestyle – staying out all days of the week, drinking too much, and having hot gay sex with a different man every night – soon catches up with him when the police realise there’s just one link that connects the bodies.
And it’s him.
Will faces a battle around the clock to prevent his best friend from being put away for life – and while the two of them face their own demons, there’s a secret hanging over their heads that might just bring it all crashing down. And while he fights to keep it together, the one thing Will can’t bear to face is the fact that he wishes his best friend was something more.

Excerpt from Bloodless
But Plan A was still on the cards, and that was why we were sitting on a battered and faded velvet sofa together, playing the part of the loved-up couple. Ram’s arm was hooked around my shoulders, and he had insisted that I lean my head in to the crook of his neck.
“Do you see anything yet?” he murmured quietly, his breath stirring the hair on top of my head.
“No,” I replied, casting another look around the bar, just in case. “Are you sure this is necessary?”
“Shh, honey,” Ram said, taking hold of my hand and interlacing his fingers with mine. “We don’t want to fight in public like this.”
Part of me was cringing at being seen with him in such an obvious embrace. The part of me that would always be the son of Ambassador Wallace was balking at every look that passed our way. The small itching paranoid voice in the back of my head whispered, against all the odds, that word would probably get back to him. That, somehow, he would know.
And then there was the rest of me. The side that thrilled with electricity at being nestled in so close to his body, even if we were only playing pretend. The side that felt him hold my hand and whispered for more. That even promised it would be alright, it would all be alright, if we just stayed like this forever.
Ram’s fingers tensed, gripping mine tightly. For a moment I almost cried out. It felt like he was going to break one of the delicate bones, or crush something.
“He’s here,” Ram whispered in my ear, and when I looked up and saw him too, I forgot all about the pain in my hand.
Graham had shown us a picture of his friend, taken on a drunken night out together. He wasn’t a particularly remarkable man. He was on the short side, a little older, with a face that had not been blessed with beauty. His dark, short hair stood straight upright on his head. He wore a single gold hoop earring, small and close to the lobe, in his left ear.
Ram had recognised him almost immediately. More than that, he had cursed loudly and for a very long time. He had seen the killer in bars, had walked past him, had seen him in the CCTV footage. He always remembered the guy because of the fact that he had a small dog that he tied up outside. He had even turned him down, one night when he was sitting alone – just like the victims had been.
If I had had reason to doubt my own eyes, I would have believed Ram’s. But the picture had been true to life. That was him – real and in the flesh. Walking and talking and breathing just like everyone else. As if he wasn’t a monster.
Ram shifted position, slipping his arm down around my back and straightening so that I had to leave my comfortable notch on his neck. He nuzzled against the side of my face, as if he was kissing there, so that he could murmur directly into my ear. “Let’s not spook him. One of us looks at a time. Not both.”
“Okay,” I said, finding my voice dry. I cleared my throat. The adrenaline and fear of seeing the killer right in front of us mixed with the undeniable rush of arousal I felt as Ram’s nose and lips tickled my cheek. I tried to hold it together.
“You’re shaking,” Ram said. “Calm down. We just need to watch him.”
I turned my head, keeping my eyes low, and moved my lips to his ear this time. “What if he leaves?” I asked. I knew if he met my gaze he would be able to read everything there, would know that it wasn’t fear making me shake. I tried not to focus on how good his hair smelled.
“Then we follow,” Ram said, moving his hand to run a light finger down the side of my arm. “Just relax, Will baby. We need the proof.”

Serial Investigations London is officially closed for business – with private detectives Will and Ram still not talking to one another after an explosive argument. Even when a copycat killer springs up, seemingly targeting only their own cases, they can’t see eye to eye.
Little wonder, given that they both have something more important on their minds. Someone knows about San Francisco – about the man who died on a rooftop at their feet. Who has discovered their deepest secret? And what will they do to keep it buried?
That’s when another mystery piles up on top of the rest: a traditional trope that every seasoned detective must face, the locked room. But this one has a deadly twist, and if they don’t come to terms with their differences and work together, one of them might not live to regret it.
Will and Ram face the most pressing and personal danger yet – but the question is, who’s behind it? And will they realise they’ve been set against one another before it’s too late? Or can they admit their love for one another and use it to become stronger than ever?
