On the Road: A CIA agent heads to the bayou to question a group of shifters, only to discover a gift from Fate he isn’t sure he can have.
Agent Rhone Craigson has known about shifters for nearly a decade. He also knows there’s a group of them currently hiding out in the remote bayous of Louisiana. When several missing persons reports come to Rhone’s attention, all from that area, his curiosity is piqued… along with a healthy dose of concern. For the safety of, well, everyone, shifters need to stay under the radar.
Rhone needs to know if the shifter group is involved in the disappearance of humans in that area. Due to the fact that there’s a mole in the CIA, feeding the military sensitive information, he decides to visit the shifters in person. When Rhone arrives, he finds the group surprisingly welcoming and forthcoming. Joining them for a meal, he spots a cute, dirty-blond-haired twink that causes an unexpected dose of attraction, who’s introduced as Mickey, a meerkat shifter.
When Mickey claims they’re mates, Rhone knows that means Mickey expects them to bond and live as a couple. While Rhone can admit that he wouldn’t mind getting to know the little shifter, so much is going on within the agency. Can he discover the mole to ensure Mickey’s safety, or is walking away the safer option?
REVIEW:
Note: This is the 34th book in this series, but it works as a stand alone as long as the reader has some knowledge of this paranormal world.
Rhone Craigson is a CIA agent who is working with his boss to try to ferret out a mole who is leaking information to some shadowy military groups who are trying to capture shifters. He’s concerned when he learns of several missing persons cases that are close to where he knows a group of shifters are staying so he wants to make sure that they are not being targeted. He has known about shifters for a while and this is his first opportunity to meet this particular group.
When Rhone arrives in Louisiana, he meets Alpha Kontra Belikov and his group of paranormals. He’s intrigues because he’s not had the opportunity to interact with too many before. He shares his concerns with Kontra and his leadership but they have something to share with him too 😉 Mickey, one of the shifters there is sure that Rhone is his mate. Luckily Rhone already knows about Fate and mates, so the conversation can be abbreviated. Rhone is much more concerned about Mickey’s safety because he really needs to make sure that they catch the mole so that all shifters will be less at risk.
Lo and behold, Kontra puts Rhone in touch with a blast from the past 🙂 Together they come up with a plan to expose the person who is leaking the info. There are twelve possibilities, so the setup is quite extensive. In the end they catch the person – but the danger isn’t over. While this book doesn’t end on a cliffhanger, it’s clear that there is more work for Rhone and the paranormals to do to find all the bad guys!
OMG! This was so good and I only wish it was longer. I can’t wait for the next one, because we are left with a LOT of open questions 🙂 My most favorite ever character in these series makes a really fun appearance as well so that tips is over the edge for me. If you’ve ready my review of these and other Charlie Richards series, you know who I mean 😉 No spoilers here! I loved Mickey and Rhone together. Mickey is so unsure of himself. He’s spent too much time on the streets and then as a captive. He’s young by shifter standards and Rhone besides wanting to make sure he’s safe and cared for because they are mates, also wants to make sure all the shifters are out of harm’s way. Rhone is just perfect with Mickey and I really can’t wait to see what happens next in this series. There is clearly still work to be done! Recommended – a great addition to this series.
