Drive by Courtney Maguire
Red has all but resigned himself to a life in the closet when he’s propositioned by the dashing, wealthy Victor Itachi. The small East Texas town of Black Creek isn’t the most hospitable environment for those who are different.
His secrets keep him–and more importantly, his sixteen-year-old half-sister, Katie–safe. But Victor’s dominance challenges everything Red thinks he knows and he finds himself swept up in an intense sexual relationship that forces him to confront his deepest desires, both in and out of the bedroom.
When an unlikely friendship with the only out gay man in town triggers Victor’s jealousy, Red must make a choice: submit fully to the relative safety of Victor’s control or risk it all for a chance at something real.

I spotted him as soon as I crossed the threshold. Victor Itachi enthroned on one end of a long leather couch, the boy, Toby, draped across his lap. His dark gaze drifted over the room’s occupants as he dragged his fingers lazily through Toby’s hair.
“Redmond.” My name fell from his lips like sugar water, his eyes brightening when they stopped on me. Toby’s head jerked up, a jealous scowl twisting his youthful features.
“Victor.” My voice cracked and my cheeks burned.
“I’m glad you made it.” He snapped and Toby sat up, the charm on his collar clinking. His eyes widened and lips parted with a little gasp as Victor lifted out of the sofa like something made of air and drifted toward me. “Would you like to have a seat? Perhaps, a drink?”
“No…I…uhh…” The gears in my head screeched to a halt. I was already hard. Jesus Christ, what was wrong with me?
The corners of his lips ticked upward. “Something more private then.” He laid his delicate fingers over the card still clutched in my hand. I released it, embarrassed at the dampness I left behind. “Come with me.”
Palms sweating, blood rushing in my ears, I followed Victor Itachi up the stairs and down a narrow hallway lined with doors. We squeezed past all manner of couples in all stages of congress. He stopped just past a butch lesbian, her hand roughly working under her vociferous partner’s skirt, and slid his keycard into a lock. The door swung open silently and he slipped inside without even a glance in my direction. I panicked. Passing through that door felt like a page being turned, a decision made with far-reaching and irreversible consequences.
Holding my breath, I stepped through the door. Victor stood before me, his back turned. He slipped his jacket off his narrow shoulders and tossed it on the bed. The bed. God. Just a basic, full-sized bed with a generic tan comforter, but the sight of it made my guts clench. Just a plain old room, but after everything I’d witnessed, even the tissue box on the nightstand seemed lewd.
“Are you okay?” I jumped at the sound of Victor’s voice in the relative silence. He’d turned to face me and plucked at the buttons on his collar.
“Huh? Oh…yeah,” I answered. My mouth was dry, and I swallowed twice to get my tongue moving again.
“Don’t be nervous,” he said and took a step toward me. I flinched back, knocking into the slightly ajar door and slamming it closed.
“I’m not nervous.”
Victor laughed, a low, sultry laugh, and took another step closer. His cologne filled my head and made me dizzy. Musty and sweet like new leather.
“It’s just…”
“Been a while?”
“Yeah.”
“How long?” He was so close, now, I could feel his body heat.
“Two…maybe three…”
“Months?”
“Years.”
A dark smile stretched across Victor’s face and he slid his hands over my hips. I flinched instinctively as his fingertips teased up the hem of my shirt and tickled the bare skin of my lower back. I was taller than him, though not by much, and our hips notched together as if we were made to fit each other.
“Have you ever had a dog?”
I blinked. “A dog?”
“Dogs make wonderful companions. Full of unconditional affection.”
“Uh huh…”
“Do you want to be my dog, Redmond?” he breathed into my neck. “Give me your affection, follow my rules, and I’ll take good care of you.”
“R-rules?” My skin burst into flame as he pushed my shirt up under my armpits and his tongue teased my earlobe. For a moment, I forgot where I was and what he was offering as I imagined his tongue all over me, teasing me, tasting me, my breathing coming in short pants.
“Obedience. Loyalty. Stay. Heel. Beg.” He sucked hard at the skin behind my ear, making my back arch and my vision blur. “Give me your trust and I’ll give you what you need. Good dogs get treats.”
“And bad ones?” Sharp pain cut through the haze as he bit down hard, making me squeal, followed by more licking and sucking. The combination of sensations left me confused, unsteady, and I clutched onto his sleeves to keep from falling. This was nothing like my fantasy. It wasn’t romance. It wasn’t sweet or tender, but primal and my body screamed for it.
