BLURB:
Work has been a little hard to come by recently for builder Tom Ryder. When a friend tells him about the wad of cash he got for starring in an adult video, Tom seizes the opportunity. Besides, his friend said his co-star was really hot, so Tom is definitely not seeing a downside.
Until he arrives for the shoot and finds out his friend glossed over one important detail—Tom’s co-star is a guy.
Denny Bailey is only a few months away from finishing the dissertation for his master’s, but that doesn’t mean he can’t find time for his ‘other’ career, especially when it helps him pay off his student loans and keep body and soul together. Life as an adult performer is fun, there are no strings… What could be more perfect? And this latest arrival is definitely ticking most of Denny’s boxes, even if he is a skittish straight guy. That’s fine. Denny can handle that.
Until the next day when Tom Ryder walks into Denny’s favourite coffee shop—and he isn’t smiling.
All it takes is one afternoon to change both their lives, in ways neither of them could ever have imagined…
REVIEW:
Tom’s doing his best to get through life. He works hard but things have been a little rough. He’s not sure how he’s going to keep going, but then his friend has an idea…and Tom isn’t sure he can do it.
Denny thinks he’s got everything he needs in life…until a certain “straight” guy walks into this life.
I’m always a little leary about gay-for-you stories. If they aren’t handled right, it can be a disaster. Fortunately this author knows what she’s doing.
K.C. Wells characters are alway amaingly easy to relate to and these guys are no exception. They are both sweet and kind and have a lovely sense of humor that kept me smiling through out most of the book.
I liked the characters that came on the side as well. Tom’s ex-wife is supportive and I appreciated that. Denny’s housemates are fun and interesting as well.
One of the things I enjoyed about this story was the honest portrayal of Tom’s struggle with his sexuality. His pain and self doubt made me very sad because I know that so many people go through this torment.
And Denny’s understanding of Tom and his issues is awesome, even as he tries to deal with his own pain.
Something else I’d like to mention is the obvious love the author has for her surroundings. I can almost see the places she takes her characters even though I’ve never been to England. And it’s obviously my loss. I would love to visit the places Denny and Tom go.
K.C. Wells is a reliable writer. You can always count on her stories to be engaging, with dynamic characters and always a touch of fun. I can’t say this story was spectacular but it was pretty darn good, and something I’m having some troubles finding.
For a story about men who are doing porn, I was surprised that sex didn’t take over the book. It’s something that could happen very easily. But the author managed to have a great balance in this story. Is the sex hot as hell? Absolutely! But the story is never overshadowed by it and I was left wishing I could have spent a little more time with these guys.
If you like a little heat with a story that will melt your heart, this is definitely the book for you. If you are a K.C. Wells fan, you will be over the moon with this modern tale!
