One kiss tore them apart. Will a second bring them back together?
Knox Townsend can hardly believe it when he walks into Playgroundz Café to find his old high school crush, Trevor Channing, working the cash register. Once upon a time, the two shared a smoldering, passionate kiss while their prom dates were passed out . . . and never spoke of it again. Now Knox is back in town for the next week to upgrade the café’s coffee machines. But the only thing he really wants to upgrade are his feelings for Trevor, long simmering and now reignited. This time, hopefully for good!
Trevor hasn’t seen Knox since he left town right after graduation without so much as a backward glance. Suddenly he’s Trevor’s boss and staying at the same hotel where they’d shared their first, and only, kiss. One of the front desk clerks is Trevor’s regular customer and, for a few gift cards, Trevor checks into the room next door to Knox’s. The room with the adjoining doors he plans to keep unlocked all week, just in case!
REVIEW:
Knox and Trevor went to high school together. They were on the swim team together and spent every spare moment surfing together as well. Finally the night of their Senior prom, they shared one kiss while their dates were passed out drunk. They never talked about it and Knox left town for college and never looked back.
Fast forward four years and Knox is in town for work – he works for a national coffee shop franchise and he’s got to change out some machines. Lo and behold when he enters the coffee shop, the owner is his old crush Trevor. To say that they are shocked to see each other is an understatement. After having no contact for year, they are both a little awkward. They agree to meet later in the day to discuss the business stuff.
They end up reconnecting over their old hobby and having dinner together. But they aren’t ready to let the night end. And Trevor has a surprise for Knox – he’s taken the room next door 😉
So I really wanted to like this story a lot more than I did. I thought the premise was intriguing, but I just didn’t feel the connection between the characters. They talked over dinner, but didn’t really resolve much. Then they went to the hotel – but that took almost three quarter of the book. The remaining scene was just one long sexual encounter that I did not enjoy reading. There is a lot of word repetition that threw me out of the story as well and frankly it just wasn’t very sexy. Then the story just ended. So no clue what was going to happen the rest of the week, in the future, etc. They are all professing their love after not having seen each other for four years and it just didn’t flow. Honestly my feeling is that this needed to be a much longer book if it was going to attempt to tell this second chances story. As usual YMMV.
