How could I not have realized the guy I’ve been chatting with online is the one person I hate?
Kai, the bad boy I broke my rules for. Who stomped all over my heart. Twice. He’s arrogant and annoying, and worse, he doesn’t even remember what he did to me.
He’s also my new presentation partner. I want nothing to do with him, but the more time we spend together, the more I realize he’s not the monster I’ve made him out to be. I want to keep hating him, but it’s hard when he’s made it his mission to get me to like him.
As if things weren’t messed up enough, enter MrWrong, the bossy as f*ck guy I’ve been chatting with online. Using an anonymous app was supposed to be an uncomplicated way to explore my more extreme interests. I didn’t count on meeting the only person who’s ever been able to give me not only what I want, but what I need.
I spent years denying my attraction to men to protect a broken heart. Now I have two guys I can’t stop thinking about.
F*ck my life.
Alex and Kai’s story is an enemies-to-lovers romance between classmates who discover they have more in common than they think. Expect lots of steamy, kinky conversations, and even hotter encounters when these classmates realize who they’ve been chatting with. It is the second novel in the exciting Never Have I Ever series but can be read as a standalone.
REVIEW:
Note: This is the second book in this series. There are major spoilers for book 1, but it can be read as a standalone.
We met Alex in the first book in this series. His best friend Beck has gotten together with another housemate, Finn. Alex is feeling abandoned – which is the story of his life. His HS ex, his ex girlfriend, his family – you name it – have all left him behind. He’s just too much. He gets on Kinkster, an app to find an anonymous hookup to take control and get him out of his head.
Kai has a really busy life. He’s got work, school, taking care of his little sister and more on his plate. He uses Kinkster to get off when he needs to – finding compatible hook ups where he can control their pleasure. That’s what he gets off on 🙂 He get matched with FunTimes and wow! Are they compatible 😉
Alex and Kai have a class together. Alex has a mysterious reaction to Kai and Kai doesn’t know why. When Alex reveals why he hates Kai it’s a shock to him. But Kai is drawn to Alex and he is busy trying to figure him out when they are paired for a class project – much to Alex’s dismay. This is a true hate relationship. Until it’s not 😉 And then things go from zero to 180 in a heartbeat! These two have a lot going on under the surface and when they figure out that they “know” each other, things get really wild.
Wow wow wow. This story has a lot going on – but in a good way. Kai and Alex really seem like they are opposites in so many ways. But the truth is that they align a lot more than they realize. Poor Alex is dealing with a lot – between his ex abuser and his family who abandoned him and his brain giving him mixed signals, he’s pretty strung out. Kai/MrWrong seems to be the one thing that pulls him out of his spiraling thoughts and impulsive actions. When he realizes that Kai from his class is MrWrong, whew boy! That was not what he expected and it really throw him. The fact that Kai isn’t upset about it throws him off even more. Kai seems to be the only thing that can make him focus and get outside of himself and stop the negative and constant negative talk. For Kai’s part, he’s been singularly focused on the prize – getting his education, going to grad school and making his mother and sister’s life better. That’s left him little time for any sort of relationship. He’s just gotten his needs met by hookups either in person or on the app. The more he’s with Alex though, the more he feel possessive of him. It’s not just wanting to control him and give him what he needs during sex though. Somewhere along they way, he’s discovered he really likes Alex outside of the sex. Alex doesn’t know if he’s coming or going about half the time, and since he’s never had a healthy relationship, it’s very hard for him to interpret any sort of social situation or even take what Kai says at fact value. Kai has to do a lot of coaching and convincing since Alex’s self-esteem is in a bad place. Thankfully Kai is persistent 😉 Eventually Alex begins to trust that what Kai tells him is true, but it takes a while and there are a few setbacks. Alex has always perceived his need for anyone to be defective and annoying. Not so. Kai and his family are able to break down Alex’s walls and it’s a beautiful thing to see. I just adored Alex and Kai and really wanted things to work out for them.
Alex’s housemates feature as secondary characters in this story. As such there are some minor spoilers for Book 1 with Finn and Beck’s romance. I honestly can’t wait for book 3 – Matt and Jax’s story. Then Eli! This series is just so well-written and I am really loving how so many things are explored in these stories. They are long but well worth the read thus far. Highly recommended.
