REVIEW:
Oh how I adored this story. Julian arrives in town and meets the cop of his wet dreams. Christopher, or Topher to his friends and family, turns out he is the brother of his best friend/ neighbor, Harper Carnegie, and they just adopt him into their family from the start. Topher goes through a number of girlfriends, but none of them stick. They all say he’s boring. Meanwhile, Julian flirts shamelessly with him for years as Topher rises through the rank at the SPD and is working in the cold case unit.
When his last relationship ends and he’s got to find somewhere to land, he ends up at Harper’s. The three of the are thick as thieves and spend a lot of time together. Somehow Topher begins to notice Julian more. While they have always been comfortable with each other, they now end up cuddling on the cough on movie nights. Topher isn’t sure what to make of all this. But when he becomes a bit of a celebrity because of a cold case and the resolution, he’s not exactly happy about all the attention.
Julian’s sister is getting married and of course Julian has designed her dress. They family has made some assumptions about Julian’s boyfriend Christopher and insist that Julian bring him to the wedding since they’ve see the video of Topher’s interviews. UGH! On the other had Julian’s ex will be there with his new boyfriend and Topher volunteers to go with him. Besides, he really wants to explore where this is going. He’s definitely got more than “friendly” feelings for Julian.
Of course Julian’s family loves Topher. Their accommodations at Julian’s folk house give them the privacy to act on their desires. Julian still can’t believe this is happening but Topher isn’t going to let this opportunity pass him by. He definitely wants to pursue this new level of their relationship. It’s clear that he really cares for Julian and he wants to try to make this work. Of course there is a little bit of wedding drama but that works in their favor too.
Upon returning to Savannah, they agree to go on a real date 🙂 This has to be the most perfect date of all time. It combines a serendipitous visit to a special childhood memory for Julian and makes him believe that maybe this was meant to be after all. And despite the good things and the trials that come their way, Julian and Topher will manage them. Together.
This was such a wonderfully romantic story! Julian is a doll – we met him as he made some clothing for Sawyer and Royce. Now we get his former reality contestant back story as well as his prior relationship woes. We understand his love of fashion and design and the connection to Savannah. Topher we’ve also met before as he works with Sawyer in the Cold Case Unity and it’s nice to see him get his own happy ending. There little real angst in this story – it’s really a family love affair for Julian as Harper, Topher’s sister is his bestie and he’s been part of the family since he arrived. This relationship with Topher is the perfect icing on the cake. It was so adorable how everyone else could see that they were meant for each other. Topher was the last one to figure it out 😉 But once he did, he was all in. So sweet! I absolutely loved this story and this world.
I love the continuity of the narrator for the books in this universe that Aimee Nicole Walker has created. Tristan James keeps the voices consistent across all of these stories which I greatly appreciate. There is some timeline cross with Just Say When which readers of both stories will appreciate. So Abe and Lio and the rest of the Savannah PD as well as the husbands of Topher’s fellow officers make an appearance here. We get to know Topher’s family – especially his sister Harper. Mr. James doe a wonderful job of performing all of these various new characters. I loved the way he portrayed that stinker Thad especially and was happy with his comeuppance. The sweet and tender moments between Topher and Julian were just perfect. I loved how Topher was a little bit shy and Julian was a little bit unbelieving that he was getting his biggest wish come true. Such a lovely audio – highly recommended.
