I ran my hand over my beard. “You really don’t trust me, do you, doc?”
“No, I don’t,” he stated flatly. “I have too many people depending on me and too much riding on all this to play games with you, Declan. You distract me with your mouth and your flower deliveries. I don’t have the energy to waste trying to figure out whether you’re Jekyll or Hyde every time I see you. I work fifteen-hour days, and fucking around with you isn’t a good idea.”
For the first time, I took a really good look at Callum. It was obvious how tired he was. I couldn’t imagine working all day in the clinic, then having the responsibility of the stables on top of it. The guy had to be exhausted.
“Why aren’t you saying anything?” he growled.
I held up my hand to stop him from going down the wrong road. “I was just thinking about what you said, that’s all.” I paused as he looked at me expectantly. “I just wanna help you, doc. Caring for horses is something I know about.”
Callum stared back at me a moment, then released a caged breath. He rubbed his hand down his face before looking at me. “Then I think it’s best we act like we don’t know each other. Forget anything ever happened between us.”
My brow pinched together, confusion spreading through me. “Is that really what you want?” Because it sure as hell wasn’t what I wanted.
Callum ran both his hands through the short curls on top of his head, his biceps flexing with the movement, drawing my attention to him. “For my sake, yes, I do. You make me do stupid things,” he muttered, “and make stupid decisions.”
A grin tipped my smile to one side. “How exactly am I responsible for your decisions?”
Callum took a deep breath, ran his tongue over his bottom lip, and looked to the door before looking back at me. “You make me crazy, Declan. I can’t decide whether I’d rather fight with you, or fuck you.”
My nostrils flared and my blood heated at the possibility of him inside me. My jeans were quickly becoming uncomfortable. “I vote for fucking.”
“Of course you do,” he groaned.
Obviously done with this conversation, Callum headed toward the door. “I’ve gotta feed the horses.”
Before I could offer to help him, he was out and gone.
Deep down, I knew he was right, and I was mercurial at times. Okay, most of the time, but for some reason, when I was around him, something settled inside me.

Emerson Beckett:
Emerson Beckett is new to the publishing world. As an avid sports fan and lover of well-written M/M romance books, Emerson loves her new career as an author of gay romance. It’s even more fulfilling for her when she can combine the two.
The journey to becoming an author started with an idea while reading on the sofa. That idea became an email that ultimately resulted in Emerson using those teacher skills to edit novels for three phenomenal MM romance authors.
