REVIEW:
I have been looking forward to Marcus and Simon’s story.
Simon is struggling big time. He is buried in Medical School which is a desire of his parents more than his own. Yes they pay for his apartment and all. And yes he’s smart enough to be a doctor. But it all takes a huge role on him. Combine that with his ADHD that at times kicks his butt and his father’s discuss at him taking his meds to help control it and you have disaster written all over the poor boy. How can he possibly deserve a Daddy as wonderful as Marcus if he can’t even concentrate enough to take simple care of himself and his apartment. Marcus needs to nurture and Simon is the perfect boy for his Daddy. He has always been a care giver watching over and helping those that struggle, especially with mobility issues like his twin sister. Simon needs his help and guidance but how can he convince the boy who believes he is a constant disappointment, especially to his demanding and domineering parents, that this is real and to give them a chance?
We first met Marcus and Simon in Care. Marcus is billionaire Henry King’s friend and fellow philanthropist and Daddy. Simon is sweet Jaxon’s friend and part of their boy’s club. All four of those friends support each other in their quest for their very own perfect Daddy.
Simon’s story was a hard one. He’s super smart but his manipulative and domineering parents and their goals for him hinder instead of nurture this sweet young pleaser. He pleases at the detriment to himself. His parents want him to be a doctor to raise their social standings so he’s studying hard to be become one even though deep down he doesn’t want to be. It’s not that he’s not smart enough because he really is. But is just not what he desires. He tries to stop taking his ADHD meds because his father looks down on him for needing them. But without them he is a huge mess. He can’t concentrate and gets frustrated so easily. And he is constantly forgetting to do basic things like eat or clean up after himself because his mind simply can’t stop. All he really wants is a supportive and caring Daddy to look after him and provide the safe space to regress to Little time. Marcus is the perfect Daddy for him but Simon has a really hard time accepting that any Daddy wants a boy after they start aging physically. All the boys have been burned by temporary Daddies who have dropped them for the next younger model. Sure, Jaxon met his forever Daddy but that was just a fluke right in their minds? Boys don’t get the Daddy of their dreams just because they want one. At some time, one day, they have to grow up and be self sufficient because that’s how it is in the real world. Marcus sees that Simon is struggling but had no idea why until that first confrontation with Simon’s parents. And wow, what a disgusting piece of crap they were. Hostile, over-the-top controlling, vile and self serving to the nth degree. They remind me of the Dad’s that force their kids to excel at sports because they weren’t good enough and lived vicariously through their kid’s success. I loved that Marcus saw through their BS and who they really were. And through his love and support allowed Simon to bloom and grow strong enough to stand up to his parents.
I will say that Marcus’s fascination with Simon’s abundant package was a bit confusing. He mentioned thoughts of bottoming to experience it but I’m not sure if that really happened or not. The authors alluded to it when they raced to the bedroom that one time but nothing more. And after they hyped it so much I thought that was a missing part, at least for me.
I am pretty sure we get Theo’s story next and it might just be Henry and Marcus’s friend Benson. I am enjoying these stories and look forward to more.
