BLURB:
Traditionally, rejecting a mate means walking away. It’s a simple thing, really, painless, except for frayed emotions and a bit of friction between families. In the history of Comet Lake, it’s never led to the level of bloodshed that comes when Emery’s mate, Tobias, decides he doesn’t want him. Not only are feelings hurt, but Emery’s life is left hanging by a thread and Onyx, the mate he finds on the same day his other rejects him, emerges from the encounter pissed off and looking for revenge.
He’ll have to wait though.
Things are brewing around Comet Lake. Things the pack has never had to deal with. There are wolves on their land that don’t belong there. Scents and footprints in the forest that don’t match any enrolled members of their pack. Intruders. Unseen invaders who slink between trees and watch from the shadows.
In addition, the Howling Devils have returned. The motorcycle club, which Onyx has long belonged to, was formed two decades before to protect the Comet Lake pack, only now it’s grown into something more. A family ready to settle in and do what family does. Stay. These loyal outlaws, brave and strong, are so unlike the outlaw club that Emery once belonged to he’s got no way to relate.
Too bad the wolves around them believe otherwise, insisting that the fates brought Emery and Tobias to Comet Lake to help unravel truth and lies, if they can get past their own history. Unfortunately, the only thing they see it as is punishment for being who they were born to be. Can they move past the legacy of hatred and violence that threatens to reclaim them and if so, are they each destined to become an Outlaw Redeemed?
REVIEW:
We get another trip back to Comet Lake but hold on tight because this one is a doozy!
Emery knows that he’s not the pretty one of his band like his best friend Zane. Nor is he the majestic one like Wild. But fate has dealt him yet another blow by matching him to a mate that is not only mysterious but rejects him completely. He knows he’s bad news but even Zane has forgiven him for that mess with Flame. But when the messages in the snow call out who he really is it makes his bandmates concerned and to give it up. So he does. Sulking in the café/bakery though brings a nice positive to his life. He has met the owner/baker Onyx and they have formed a new friendship. But trouble is in the air and when Tobias contacts aEmery’s previous pack to rid himself and their pack of the plain wolf he’s been fated with he has no idea what trouble he has brought to the lands. Getting rid of Emery was his goal but the whole MC is put at risk including his best friend’s pregnant mate. Now Emery is fighting for his life and Tobias is locked up!
I have been waiting for Emery’s book. But I had no idea what was coming. I know that everyone was pissed at what he did to Zane with Flame but the level Tobias took it was too far. And to realize the hidden reason why Tobias rejected Emery broke my heart. I know that Tobias and his brother Lucien turned out how they did because of their granpe. Actually most of the MC’s and the band all had elders, whether parents or extended family, that shaped their lives not always for the good. They usually left that hostile or vile environment by means of escape. And like Tobias and Emery, developed a lack of self worth.
I will warn you, this part of the Comet Lake story is no where close to being concluded. It actually is a tad bit of a cliffhanger in my opinion and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book. I want to know all about Zane’s pups. I want to know if Emery does eventually recover. I want to know if Tobias ever finally gets it. I want to know if they eventually work it out so Emery, Onyx and Tobias wind up together like fated mates are suppose to. I want to know how the whole fated mates goes with Lucien, Brooks and JD goes with the MC. I want to know what’s up with Hades and his secrets. See lots and lots of I wants and I can’t wait to get the answers.
I will also suggest that you need to read at least book 3 before this one as they are very connected. But why not just start at the beginning of this wonderful and creative universe.
