Corrigan’s expression flickered between surprise, enthusiasm, and frustration. While he could use the money since he barely had enough to scrape by for the semester, it didn’t thrill him to learn that others were discussing his situation. He wasn’t destitute—at least, not yet—and he wasn’t too proud to find a part-time job. Plenty of students worked. He’d never accepted charity and wouldn’t begin now. He’d rather wallow in hot coals in too-tight underwear or have his toenails peeled off with a dirty paring knife first.
Except scholarships weren’t exactly charity. He would at least listen to what this dazzling human with the sexy voice and Cajun accent had to say.
“We just need to finalize everything.”
Sacha’s smile broadened, and Corrigan could have sworn all the oxygen dissipated from the room. The way his chest constricted, he’d gamble that better breathing conditions could be found in a diamond mine. And the way Sacha’s eyes sparkled in the overhead lighting caused Corrigan’s libido to run amuck. Was he an asshole for ogling and objectifying this man? Probably. But the eyes liked what the eyes liked. However, Corrigan preferred to call it appreciation.
Sacha’s lips moved and then stopped.
Oh. I’m supposed to answer.
Collecting his brain cells from wherever they’d fled, Corrigan tuned back in to the present. “Sorry,” he replied, flushing a splotchy red. “I’m still wrapping my head around winning a scholarship. Could you repeat the last part?”
