Meeting Alex O’Reilly has changed everything for me. In the past four months, I’ve found more balance in work, life, and happiness than I thought was possible for me the night we met. My life is far from perfect, but I’m starting to recover from my past expectations, and form new, and exciting ones.
But when a dinner with Alex’s family turns into a crime scene, that newfound balance is thrown in a blender.
With the city being overrun by a swell of crime, the case falls to my partner Julie Rowen and I, and brings the weight of the world with it. Gone are the lines of Trevor the detective, and Trevor the man. I’m not only under the microscope of my Lieutenant, but I can’t help but feel the warranted expectations of the man I love.
As time passes by, it’s clear that this criminal won’t stop at one attempt to get to Alex’s family. If we’re going to keep everyone alive and well, Jules and I need to be at our sharpest, and solve this case before it escalates.
Can I hold it together long enough to survive this case with the safety of Alex’s family intact, and still hold my badge? And when both of our worlds are turned upside down, will I be able to keep my relationship with Alex in the process?
REVIEW:
This is the second book in BH Lynn’s Stay Grounded Series. This series should be read in order as it continues where the story left off in the first book, It Will Come Back. The series/universe still shows continued good bones and creativity. In this second story we get to delve deeper into the characters. We are now getting a feel for how Trevor and Alex’s relationship is progressing and all the stressors that come with trying to be all things to each other, while maintaining their individuality – both personal and professional. We have more great side characters in this story, as we get to meet Alex’s parents. As the mystery in this story unfolds, we get to see the downward spiral of Trevor and his PTSD. There are some great scenes showcasing just how rough PTSD is. We also get to get some great action scenes in this one.
Naked fury reddened Raymond Craig’s face as he turned to Flank. “If you stupid sons of a bitches think you can—” He drew his fist back, but it was choreographed so poorly that Flank ducked the punch. Craig lost his footing and barreled towards Jules who easily took him down with a classic jujitsu move. She had him face down on the floor before he could say another word. “Show off.” I teased as I pulled Sean craig off the wall and let an officer take him off my hands. Jules winked at me as she knelt down and drew out her cuffs.
As in her previous book in this series the mystery doesn’t peak to soon or reveal the baddies to early. We still have some hurt/comfort themes in this story, but as Trevor and Alex progress in their relationship, there are found family foundations being built. I enjoyed this story as well and felt the sexy times in this story were realistic and well placed. Even though, some minor incontinences took me out of the story a few times, overall, I enjoyed the story. I look forward to the next book in the series and how Trevor and Alex’s story progresses.
