Drive to Thrive by CD Rachels
Formula Q Series, Book 1
Formula Q is the fastest motorsport in the world. Only the highest-performing athletes can make it to the grid. They drive fast, work hard, play hard, but off-camera, anything goes.
The public knows me as Damon ‘The Speed Demon’ Davidoff, eligible bachelor and winner of FQ titles around the world. Fans adore me and my team supports me. They don’t need to know I’m so deeply in the closet I intend to bury myself there.
Then my poor health caught up to me and my world came crashing down. I could bounce back easily if it weren’t for one little complication: my male nurse is attractive as hell.
I can suppress these feelings during the season break—I have to. I’m not going to expose my secret just because when Rocky puts his hands on me I feel a fire coursing through my veins.
As the weeks go by, I somehow let Rocky under my skin and into my heart. He’s smart, sweet, and everything I never knew I needed.
I thought I wanted a clean bill of health and to keep winning my races. Now, for the first time in my life, I want so much more. I want him, and damn if that isn’t the scariest thing I’ve ever felt.
Drive to Thrive is a male/male motorsports romance novel. It involves Christmas karaoke, New Year’s Eve parties, Las Vegas swimming pool dates, and yes, lots of racing action worldwide. It is book 1 of a series but can be read as a standalone

“Hey, no ‘Doctor’ talk during our lunch break.” She points at me with her fork and I giggle. Despite me working for her, we’ve been best friends for too long for me to use formalities, at least during lunch.
“Fine.” I fork some chicken into my mouth. “Wanna hear about the latest gay romance graphic novel I read?”
“No, I want real-life gossip. So spill it, Rock.”
“Spill what?” I open up a water bottle and hope I’m not blushing too much.
“The new hot client guy I sent you.” She smiles as she eats. “You owe me big time, by the way.”
“First of all, ‘hot client guy?’ Melissa, you don’t date men.”
“I’m less than one-percent hetero, but that doesn’t mean your girl is blind.” We both chuckle.
“And second,” I continue, “I am a professional. I do not flirt with clients. I’m not allowed to date to them anyway.”
“And third?” Melissa asks, quirking an eyebrow.
I put down my fork and swallow my food. I look down at my plate and grit my teeth. “Ohmygod, Melissa, he’s so hot I wanna cry.”
Melissa laughs at my expense. “There’s my boy.”
I sigh and look up. “But he’s weird, yo. Cold shoulder. I get it: gay Filipino guy all up in your space to touch your PICC line. He nearly freaked when I asked to assess his abdomen.”
“Hey, we need that assessment!” I give her a stern look. “Right, no doctor talk.” She flips her long black hair. “Look, how often do you get the chance to treat a worldwide sensation who’s a hottie?”
I roll my eyes and smile. Sometimes it feels like we never graduated from high school. “You know I don’t care about motorcross.”
“It’s Formula Q.”
“Whatever. You sent me a sexy guy to treat, so what? It’s like torture, but again, he doesn’t like me. And, I’m a professional, so he’s off-limits.”
“He’s not actually off-limits.” She scoops some more pancit into her mouth, and I freeze. “Seriously. You can date clients, as long as you don’t break medical privacy laws. Our practice says nothing about relations with past or current clients. And hey—maybe he’s uncomfortable because he wants you.”
I put down my fork and feel my face get warm. My heart skips a beat. The idea of Damon Davidoff being interested in me…impossible.
I shake my head. “He’s…straight.”
“Not according to the tabloid rumors.”

He’s been consuming young adult gay fiction since he was a teen, but within the past five years moved up to the big leagues of gay adult romance. In 2020 during quarantine, he burned through more male/male romance books than he ever had in the previous 29 years combined.
He lives in New York City with the love of his life and works in health insurance. When he’s not reading and writing, he’s playing board games and practicing music. He is honored to become a self-published author, and if you’re reading this, your support means so much to him that it’s giving him a tingly feeling (in a good way).
