The King’s Delight by Sarah Honey
Tales of Lilleforth, Book 1
King Leopold of Lilleforth rules his kingdom well. He’s handsome, intelligent, and charming. It’s no wonder the neighbouring kingdoms are eager to provide him with a princess to marry. There’s just one problem—Leo has no interest in princesses. His tastes tend more towards handsome young men who enjoy a good spanking.
Felix Hobson left the kingdom of Lilleforth as a teenager to train as a groom. While he was away he learned a lot, and not all of it had to do with horses—although riding crops were definitely involved. Now an adult, Felix is home to take up the position of royal groom, where he hopes he’ll have plenty of opportunities for a roll in the hay.
When Felix mistakes Leopold for a horse thief and attempts to seduce him, Leopold is delighted by the irreverent, attractive lad, and sparks fly. Their arrangement is all fun and games, right until they both fall hard and fast. But while what they have together is a delight, there’s no way it can last—can it?
They’ll have to navigate a visiting princess, an assassination attempt, and a kidnapping if they want a chance to find out.

“Flick? Are you in—”
Leo took a step back and dropped his hands to his sides, right before Mother Jones appeared in the doorway.
He stopped short, glancing between them, and cleared his throat. “Oh. Apologies, Your Majesty. I was just looking for Felix but I see he’s ah, busy.”
Felix ducked his head, feigning interest in the dust patterns on the stone floor.
“Mr. Jones,” Leo said pleasantly, like he hadn’t just had his tongue inside Felix’s mouth. “I was just introducing myself to my new groom.”
“Right,” Mother nodded, not quite managing to hide his smile before turning on his heel and departing. He was gone before the flush of heat at almost being caught had left Felix’s cheeks.
When he lifted his head, Leo was looking at him with open curiosity. “He called you Flick,” he said. “Why do I know that name?” Leo’s brow furrowed in concentration in a way that reminded Felix of a small child first learning to trace their letters.
Felix bit his lip. “We’ve met before. When I was younger.”
It took a moment, but then Leo’s eyes widened. “You’re the brat who insulted me!”
Felix nodded, his heart sinking, and waited for the inevitable outrage followed by his dismissal. So much for his new position.
But Leo didn’t seem upset by his revelation. In fact, his face broke into a wide smile, and he threw his head back and laughed. “What was it you called me? A self-important twat?”
“Actually, I called you a stuck-up little tit. But in my defence, I didn’t know you were the prince.”
Leo snorted in a manner most unbecoming a monarch. “So, you were just rude to everybody as a child, I take it.”
Felix couldn’t help himself. “Possibly. But now that I know who you are, I’ll be sure to show proper deference and not call you names…unless you’d like that.”
Leo’s eyebrows raised in surprise and Felix wondered if he’d overstepped, but then a hungry smile crept over Leo’s face and he leant in close again and whispered, “Well, I will admit, I don’t mind hearing the occasional ‘sire.’”
