BLURB:
A night at the theatre with Alexander Kempthorne… what could possibly go wrong?
When Kempthorne asks Dom to join him for a night at the theatre, Dom can hardly refuse. He’s fought mad shadow witches, insane ex-partners, and a whole lot of twitchy artefacts. How hard can schmoozing rich people be?
Of course, Kempthorne forgot to mention the King of England will be there.
It’s all going well, until a suspect bomb is found and the spotlight falls on Dom.
Car chases, Tasers, and some back-room spice, Dom’s not sure this is how a typical theatre trip goes. MI6, the London Metropolitan Police, and the king’s personal security all want a piece of him.
If Dom has any chance of avoiding prison, he and Kempthorne must find the real would-be assassin before the curtain falls.
A Night at the Theatre is a Shadows of London novella that takes place after Without a Trace, Shadows of London #5. The series must be read in order.
REVIEW:
NOTE: This is book 5.5 in this series. They need to be read in order or this will make no sense 🙂
Well this was the rollercoaster ride I didn’t even know I needed 😉
With Alexander Kempthorne and John Domenici no longer being the most powerful latents, they are now just John and Alex out for a night at the theatre. Where the King of England will also be in attendance. You just know something is going to to happen – especially since Alex kept that little secret until they were nearly at the venue. Oh, and did he mention that he owns the theatre as well? And that they will be sitting in a fancy box?
Just when Alex is about to make things up to John for making him attend a French play with the King of England, well things go sideways. It will take all of John and Alexander’s mundane skills to keep them ahead of those who are looking to set them up for a mighty fall. Except it isn’t what it seems on the surface and the bad guy has more in mind than sending them to jail.
What a fabulous story! Poor Dom and Kempthorne just cannot catch a break. Even though they’ve set as much to rights as they can, there’s always somebody who isn’t happy. It’s a surprise as to who the bad guy is and what his motivations are. In fact, it’s a big surprise as to just what a BAD guy he is! Way worse than anybody had any idea. In the meantime, help comes from unexpected places and the Cecil Court team work together to save the day! It’s more true than ever that Dom and Alex are made for each other and nobody else can ever come between them. Thanks to the author for this lovely treat of a story of Alex and Dom after all the madness of the series. Highly recommended for fans of this series. I think you’ll like this glimpse of the team in the HEA world 🙂
