BLURB:
Omega Atlas Payne never imagined he’d be at The Auction being ogled by rich alphas. He had bigger plans for his life that didn’t include being an incubator to some alpha’s offspring. But when his father disgraces his family name, it’s either sell himself to the highest bidder or starvation.
Alpha Dante Stone is still grieving the loss of his omega a decade later. He has zero interest in taking a new omega. Still, he’s inexplicably drawn to the young omega who seems completely out of place at The Auction.
When it looks as if the nastiest alpha at The Auction is about to win Atlas, something inside Dante snaps, and he buys Atlas himself.
But once he has Atlas in his home, he has no idea what to do with him. He craves Atlas but is too guilt-ridden to give either of them what they instinctively want.
Then fate steps in.
REVIEW:
A brand-new author-to-me that I will be looking forward to reading more from in the future!
Atlas is in a really tough spot with no solutions that are desirable because of his father’s illegal and immoral indiscretion/actions. Atlas has always been told that you don’t have to follow the omega mold but can create your own. That all crumbles to pieces after his father’s arrest. Now his university scholarship has been cancelled and his tutoring job rescinded. Left with nothing else except dying on the streets, prostitution or putting himself up for bidding by wealthy alphas at The Auction. The young 23 year old virgin makes the choice to be auctioned off and accept his fate. Dante Stone, of the Stone Candy empire, begrudgingly agrees to accompany his beat friend Finlay to The Auction. When his eyes fall upon the young man in nothing else except a gold thong on a pedestal something strong overtakes him and he knows he must protect the boy. But he has no desire for an omega. His one true love Lukas, who has been dead for ten years, can never be replaced. When fate puts #334 Atlas in his home he has no idea what to do with him. He has plenty of staff to take care of his needs. Well almost all his needs but he can’t act on those because he can’t bear to betray his beloved Lukas and his memory. Or can he? When a boy as delicious and desirable as Atlas is in the very next room and fate plays a hand in the game all is possible!
Some things in this universe confused me a bit. They talk of fated mates and mention in vague references wolves. There is knotting but I don’t think that these are wolf shifters. It’s more like the Alphas have the ability to knot and are some kind of hybrid human with wolf characteristics. I simply don’t know.
This is very much an Alpha dominated universe and omegas are to know their place. For most it’s to be bred and produce heirs. I did love that Atlas was not raised that way and had a backbone. Lukas obviously loved Dante but him letting Dante get away with such childish rants and temper tantrums helped to form Dante to the way he was. Yes he’s an extremely rich and successful business man but his personal life was a shambles and no one seemed to dare before to call him out on his behavior. And why in the world did no one ever get the man into counseling. It’s okay to mourn your lost love but to literally put your life in the deep freezer for ten years and only function when it came to business was unhealthy. And Mrs Gentry helped to facilitate his idiosyncratic behavior. I love that several good friends/colleagues/staff called him out on not only his behavior but also to look at who/what Atlas was. And his unwillingness to procreate with Atlas because Lukas couldn’t have the children he desired but he was willing to use a surrogate was all kinds of wrong. His heir was in his fated mate’s body and you want to kill it but know that you have to produce an heir made no logical sense at all. Again, counseling was deeply needed here. I did love that Atlas finally stood up for himself and sought out help. His strong backbone, along with Dante’s best friend Findlay’s help , guidance and support were key in finally making Dante open his eyes and realize what he stood to loose…everything! Money can buy all kinds of things but it can’t buy happiness. But at least it lead to Dante finally growing up and setting proper priorities.
Dante’s biggest positive for me was that he felt that The Auction was horrible. They were literally selling off young omegas for breeding like you would have at a cattle auction. And to assign numbers instead of names reinforced that.
I will say that I know that Dante had a close, personal connection with Mrs. Gentry but that woman would have been out of there for her stunts and disrespect. You can only expect to have to put up with so much and she pushed those at every turn. She was a judgmental bigot who only kowtowed to the rich and influential. The rest were beneath her and not to be allowed in their lives.
This is a long novel and there are times you want to slap the crap out of Dante. He was as hard headed and lost in the past as you can get and it wouldn’t have surprised me to have Atlas say “to the heck with this” and found an Alpha that would treat him fairly and lovingly. I know that the author said this is a stand alone book and not in her usual wheelhouse. However, she has constructed a well built universe and it would be easy to build off of this book. I really want Finlay to get his HEA and also Ronin too! They both stuck their necks out to get Dante to open his eyes to what he would lose by losing Atlas regardless of the consequences to themselves because they both truly cared for both Dante and Atlas.
