Aziel rushes Aaron to a barbeque at the estate where he lives, but a gathering with lots of strangers—even welcoming ones—who are all in lovey-dovey partnerships is a little hard to stomach. Aaron retreats to a gorgeous garden maze maintained at the estate. From there, he takes refuge in the forest. Becoming lost, Aaron stumbles across the most stunning fairy-tale cottage he’s ever seen.
When a monster appears, Aaron would have forever denied fainting… except he wakes in a bedroom with Aziel by his side. His brother reminds him of stories told by their long-deceased mother… things he had never thought to be true, and gives the monster a name—Grimley. Days later, as Aaron’s memories of the beast plague him, he wonders why thoughts of searching for the reclusive Grimley seem far more compelling than returning his wife’s urgent phone calls? Even with Aziel’s tales of love, devotion, and companionship whispering in his ear, Aaron wonders what on earth he would possibly do if he actually spotted the beast again… other than faint a second time?
REVIEW:
Aaron is an accountant who has recently walked in on his cheating wife Melanie. She is abusive and mean to him when caught and he leaves – heading to his brother back to Durango. However, she shows up at the BnB where he’s staying and tries to get him back. Turns out Melanie has been living quite the life right under Aaron’s nose and he’s too busy to notice because he’s working so hard to keep her in the lifestyle to which she wants to become accustomed.
Aziel is Arron’s brother. He’s mated to an otter shifter, but he hasn’t had time to tell Aaron all about that yet given that he’s dealing with the ending of his marriage to a woman that he’s never liked. Aziel feels really bad for Aaron. While at a barbecue at the estate where Aziel lives, Aaron wanders off and comes upon a small cottage. Grimley, the resident of the cottage assumes that Aaron knows about paranormals since Aziel is mated to a shifter. Unfortunately, Aaron is unaware and faints when he sees the large gargoyle, thinking Grimley is some sort of monster.
It turns out that Aaron has a harder time accepting the paranormal than Aziel did. He also is dealing with low self-esteem because of Melanie, so it take s a bit for him to come around with the whole mates scenario – and he’s never been with a guy before either! So there’s that 😉
Melanie continues to pull out all the stops to hang onto her bank account. Luckily Aaron and Aziel’s friends and family are there to help Aaron ferret out the truth. Melanie is quite the piece of work, but Grimley is not about to let his mate be taken advantage of!
OMG. I cannot tell you how much I love gargoyles. I think they are my favorite paranormals in this series and anything with Maelgwn’s clutch makes me happy. I just wish we got more time with the hatchlings 🙂 Hopefully with this new pairing, there will be more gargoyle babies in the future. I was so happy to see Melanie get what was coming to her and Aaron be appreciated for who himself. Grimley is a sweetheart who has not had things easy, but Fate has given him a wonderful mate in Aaron. Love this series – they are like a sweet amuse bouche! Recommended for all fans of this series especially 😀
