BLURB:
August Morrison and Ricardo Torralba would really like to live a quiet life—as quiet as life can be for a couple of eccentric hitmen, anyway. Unfortunately for them, they pushed their luck with the authors, and demanded a sequel. So now, whether they like it or not, they’re getting a third installment.
Yes, this is a revenge audiobook. Because we’re the authors, that’s why.
This time, August and Ricardo are in way over their heads, because there are few things more dangerous than owing a favor to the mafia. When that favor gets called in, though, it’s not to kill anyone—it’s to save them. Time is running out to find the source of tainted street drugs poisoning innocent people.
Now they’re caught in the middle of a deadly war between rival families, all while trying to dodge suspicious police and merciless drug cartels.
Maybe this time, August and Ricardo will learn their lesson and not demand another audiobook…assuming they survive this one.
Killer vs. Kingpin is the third installment in the Hitman vs. Hitman series that seems to have evolved from an alleged “standalone” to “yeah, we don’t even know”. They’re just too much fun to torture! Err, write. Too much fun to write.
REVIEW:
NOTE: this is the third in a series and honestly you will be SOOOO lost if you haven’t read them in order.
When we last left them, August and Ricardo were happily settled in domesticity – well settled for them. Then they receive a mysterious summons and yep, it turns out to be the mob boss that they owe a favor. It’s not like they can refuse. But they favor is out of their usual line of work. Silva wants them to help discover who is tainting the fentanyl and killing off their customers. August is in the perfect position to try to discover the source of the bad product. Then one of his contacts dies. And another person close to him is threatened. So now August is really mad.
Ricardo is working another angle and then there is the little annoyance of the cops breathing down their necks after August’s encounter with the seller who ends up dead. This is really cramping their style and making it hard to detect who might be involved. Silva is doing his best to keep things from getting any more dangerous and avoiding an all out war, but it ain’t easy 😉
Are you serious right now with this ending? Because now this means at least two more books!! Because come on – you CANNOT leave us hanging with the potential Silva romance!!! August and Ricardo are their same hilarious, snarky selves. I cannot get enough of these two. It’s clear that they love each other but the also love yanking each other’s chains. Repeatedly. August is so funny so many times in this book and then he’s laser focused when dealing with the bad guys. The one true weakness these guys have is each other. But luckily, the are able to avoid too much damage this time 😉
There is a lot of action with the final confrontation that kept the adrenaline pumping. Lots of bad guys and lots of surprises too. But the best part was that I can listen to this again and again and laugh out loud. Michael Ferraiuolo does such a great job with these characters. I honestly think his absolutely stellar performance of this series is why Lori and Cari continue to write it. I, for one, am hoping for at least one more book for August and Ricky but I really really hope Silva gets his own book – hint, hint 😉 One of my absolute favorite audiobook series and I highly recommend it if you love action, humor, enemies to lovers, snarky characters and happy endings 😀

You are correct that Michael is the reason Cari and I keep writing these books! LOL Well, and because August and Ricardo won’t shut up.
You’re also correct about 2 more books, one of which comes out in January (Silva!!):
