Heading home for the holidays was the last thing I wanted to do. I had plans. Plans that didn’t involve visiting the back of beyond.
But a call from mum two weeks before the holidays put paid to said plans. Grandpa was sick and wanted to see me. He’d been a big part of my life growing up and I wouldn’t deny him that. He’s got a list too. Not a bucket list, he didn’t like that name.
He had a wish list and wanted my help.
What I didn’t expect, though, was the annoyingly cheerful Angus with his kilt, tattoos, and piercings. He was totally not my type
Angus
William Campbell was my best friend, even at the ripe old age of eighty-seven. We’d talk, play chess and talk some more. He’d boast about his high-flying grandson, Blair and I’d listen and nod. In the twelve months, I’d looked after William, I’d never seen him. He’d visited, just not when I was around, and to be honest, I was pleased about that. He was arrogant and selfish and didn’t seem to care one jot about his grandpa.
Now he’s here and I’m trying to hate him. Hate his perfect smile, and his warm brown eyes but he’s pushing all my buttons, and not in a bad way, and when William asks me to help Blair fulfill his wish list, who am I to say no?
One Last Wish is an MM Christmas standalone featuring a grumpy architect and a carefree carer. They come together over an old man’s wish list, trying to bring a little light to his life, at the same time finding that opposites really do attract.
REVIEW:
Blair is on his way from Edinburgh to visit his grandfather. He’s cancelled his holiday trip to Spain because his mother has told him he needs to get to Aberfeldy to visit his grandfather if he wants to see him again. Blair is quite angry that his parents have not told him how frail his grandfather is and that this is likely his last Christmas. He used to spend his summers with his granddad until his parents divorced and he spent them with his dad in Edinburgh after that. He’s guilty that he hasn’t made the time to see him more as he’s been building his business as an architect in Edinburgh.
Angus has been caring for William for about a year since his health has been deteriorating. He is all set to hate Blair since he thought he was just being selfish not visiting his grandpa. But when he sees Blair with William, he knows that’s not the case and Blair has been knocked for a loop at how ill William really is. Despite his initial impressions and Blair persnickety nature, he is very attracted.
Blair and Angus are helping William finish his “list” which consists of things Blair would never have done on this own. Tattoos? Check. Ice Skating? Check. Karaoke? Check. But there is a certain item on the list that means more than the rest. Can Angus and Blair help him find a lost someone? What will that mean for all of them? Will it be a Christmas miracle? You’ll have to read to find out.
So I’m giving this four stars based on a couple of things. First, Scotland. Second Aberfeldy – where you will find THE BEST Tablet in all of Scotland. Also kilts. I had a hard time warming up to Blair, but I loved William and Angus. I didn’t think Angus was exactly carefree, but he had a better feel for what he wanted in life. Blair was pretty uptight and unhappy with the fact that he’d been kept out of the loop about William’s health until nearly the end. I did love William and the twist in his life that Angus and Blair help to facilitate (no spoiler from me -you’ll have to read it to find out 😉 ). I enjoyed the wish list and Blair’s relationship with his grandfather. I got a bit tired of the push pull with Blair and his relationship with Angus. These guys really needed to learn to communicate and be honest with each other about how they were feeling. The holiday vibe was great – with ice skating, New Year’s at a pub, decorating for Christmas and various other activities. Someday I’d like to spend the holidays in Scotland myself 🙂 Probably a retirement wish list item 😀 All in all, a nice holiday treat that I think you may enjoy.
