The snow is falling, the bells are ringing, and Krew is ready to celebrate the holidays with all his friends by throwing the most fabulous Krewmas party of the century!
There will be….
- Thirty sprigs of mistletoe (Ireland will be there, need I say more?)
- A tree full of sexy mermen (No explanations required.)
- A promiscuous Elf on the Shelf (Max can’t wrap his head around this one.)
- An atrocious casserole (Thanks, Adrian.)
- Creatively remastered Christmas carols (to help Krew get in the spirit)
- A bottle of aged whiskey (for Max…. See above.)
- Eight deliciously festive tubes of Chapstick (Um…. I’ll let Krew explain.)
- Baby Godzilla, aka Scarlett (Did you think Finn and Aven would miss this?)
- Unicorn horns, magnum-sized condoms, ugly sweaters, a baby Jesus (who probably should not have been invited), snow diving, and much, much more.
Oh, and if Krew can work a miracle, Santa might even…come.
Krewmas will be one for the record books. So many shenanigans even Krew himself may not be able to keep up.
REVIEW:
“Oh shit! Baby Jesus is still in the closet. I mean, he’s not gay—that I know of—but he’s in the closet. My closet. In the bedroom. With Mary and Joseph.”
“Does anyone else feel like this is the start of a bad joke?” Rigger asked.
There are three things you need to know about the A Very Merry Krewmas audiobook.
- It’s outrageously “Krew”. If you love him – and the Krew/Max dynamic – you’ll love this book.
- All of the boys from the Trial of Fears series have major roles.
- Voice actor Adam Gold is pure gold. He does some of his best work in this audiobook. He’s fantastic!
This isn’t a plot-driven story; it’s all about the characters having fun and Krew’s quest for a perfect holiday. Krew never had much of a Christmas growing up and longs for one now. And when Krew has a wish, Max does his best to grant it. With one exception…for Krew’s Christmas party, he will emphatically NOT play Santa, not even for his boy, not even with Krew’s relentless full-court press. However, do you really think Krew’s going to take “no” lying down? Well, maybe lying down in bed is where they can sort it all out.
Along the way, in addition to what the blurb teases, you’ll be treated to:
- Krew’s sacrilegious attempt at saying grace and his irreverent, out loud discussion with God
- An X-rated rendition of “Must Be Santa”
- A Doritos casserole. Ack!
- A closeted, naked, baby Jesus
- Krew’s ideal Christmas tree – “I want a pretty tree with sparkles and shininess and an explosion of lights and jazziness and pizzazz. It needs to scream, ‘Krew lives here, bitches!’ I want people to look at it and leave their jaws on the floor. I want them to envy our tree, not throw up a little in their mouths. You understand what I’m saying?
- And so many more ROFL moments
All this with Krew’s found family, including Finn and Aven (Owl’s Slumber) and their baby Scarlett; Krew’s best friend, Rory, and Adrian (Shades of Darkness); Ireland and Raven (Touch of Love); Grayson and Beck (Lost in a Moment); Arden and Iggy (Cravings of the Heart); and Krew’s other dear friend, Rigger, and Naël (Rigger’s Decision).
With twelve characters to voice, Adam had his work cut out for him but he handled it with near flawlessness. His voices for feisty and excitable Krew and ever-patient Max are highly differentiated. It’s hard to believe their voices come from the same narrator. In fact, I can’t remember a time with the audiobooks I’ve listened to when a narrator so successfully gave such distinct voices to the leads. Krewmas is a fun book but the audiobook stands out as the way to go.
The bottom line with this audiobook…Krewmas is a raucous experience that will give you the funniest look at Christmas since Heat Miser and Snow Miser. (I have their figurine ornaments on my tree.) The party guests’ lives are enriched by Krew’s presence, his joy, and his shenanigans. In return, Krew is ensconced in their love. Nicky James gives Krew the family – especially Max – and the Christmas he never had growing up, and Adam brings it to life.
