The bitch is back.
It’s me. I’m the bitch. And thanks to my traitorous bestie Sarah’s vampire cult having a funny definition of “virgin sacrifice,” I’m back from the dead rather than back from a much-needed vacation in Cancun.
Now I’m possessed by their snarky deity, and my afterlife depends on keeping it a secret from her cult of four reincarnated vampire lovers. Budget Edward—I mean Cyrus—and his way more obnoxious twin, Cameron, are at the helm. Then there’s Sam, the guy I thought was my friend, who apparently takes backstabbing way too literally. And because things just couldn’t get any shittier, my soon-to-be ex-boyfriend Alex is involved. Ex-alive, that is.
They say revenge is a dish best served cold, which is perfect considering the frosty new powers at my disposal, but I think I took it a little too far. When my plan goes sideways and all I get is the attention of a hunter, the cult doesn’t try to kill me a second time. I fall under their unwanted protection instead, and they claim I belong to them now—body and soul. And it turns out hate—and heat, which is a whole new experience for me, just like being with a guy is a whole new
experience for them—spices things up.
Are enemies with benefits a thing?
REVIEW:
What an interesting, snarky, quirky book with a very different take on paranormal, which I enjoyed.
Chase has his group of friends and a disinterested boyfriend, on the surface he is tight with his friends but always feels he doesn’t quite fit and seems to try harder than they do., but they’ve been friends since they were little, so everything is good, isn’t it. The more he clings to his boyfriend the more he seems to slip further away.
Then one night everything changes for Chase, his friends and his boyfriend sacrifice him to their deity with the expectation that Sarah will become the bearer of the deity’s essence, soul, being. The shock, horror, terror and pain that Chase feels as he lies on that sacrificial table, the ultimate betrayal by his so called friends. The group of friends is made up of Sarah and Sam who have been best friends with Chase since they were small. Alex who is Chase’s boyfriend. Cameron and Cyrus, twins who are Sarah’s boyfriends
Only a few chapters in and this book had me totally hooked, its fast paced and really interesting to see where it is going next.
The description of where Chase ends up once he is dead, the nothingness then the tidal wave of blood pulling him under was emotive, the struggle to survive and then the battle with another presence was well written and not at all what I was expecting as a glimpse into an afterlife.
Chase really comes into his own as a character when he wakes up in the morgue, his utter confusion then his fury over his friends betrayal was perfection. I particularly liked the way he plotted his revenge and pretended he couldn’t remember anything was masterful. The groups confusion over what happened, what went wrong, what the hell was amusing.
When Chase ends up with the 4 boys, I loved that he was still furious with them over their betrayal. The more he finds out about the cult they all belong to and that they have all been reincarnated several times over the centuries. They are vampires and serve the Goddess that is currently inside Chase’s head. None of which dulls Chase’s fury about what they did to him. Alex bears the brunt of his anger which is totally understandable.
I really thought I had a handle on the book and what was happening, but there was so many twists and turns and unexpected happenings it kept me turning the pages. A really different take on Vampires, it ends of a slight cliffhanger.
