Santa Paws is coming to town.
When Dr. Miles Lane purchases Paws and Claus, a veterinary clinic in the quirky town of Mistletoe Falls, he doesn’t quite know what he’s in for.
The small town offers a fresh start for Miles, his seven year old daughter, Holly, and their rambunctious Saint Bernard. What Miles doesn’t count on is his immediate attraction to the local handyman, Oberon, who he hires to do some work on their new home and clinic.
Oberon finds himself falling hard for the town’s new vet and his adorable family. There’s only one problem: Oberon is a sprite, a magical being tasked with bringing holiday spirit to the human realm. Every time he’s around Miles and Holly, his chemis-tree goes a bit haywire.
But when a pet-tastrophe strikes Mistletoe Falls, Miles and Oberon must team up to make sure the town and all of it’s furry residents have the ulti-mutt holiday.
If you love fated mates, pets who like to play matchmaker, and magical elves, er, sprites, who make the season bright, you’ll have a pawsitively wonderful Christmas time with this holiday romance.
REVIEW:
Who can resist a fluffy, super-sweet, zero-angst, holiday romance with a sexy, magical contractor (who’s also a sprite), a single dad, an adorable child, and tons of cute animals? Not me, that’s for sure. Oberon, the second book in Macy Blake’s Christmas Sprites series, picks up where the first book, Nyall, left off, with a bit of overlap to connect the two. It focuses on Nyall’s cousin Oberon, the town contractor/handyman, and his instalove, fated mates romance with Miles Lane, Mistletoe Falls’ new veterinarian.
These Christmas Sprites short stories live in Blake’s Chosen One Universe and are connected to each other, but you don’t need to know anything about any of the other Chosen One books to enjoy the Christmas Sprites stories. Each story focuses on one of the four elf/sprite cousins who live in Mistletoe Falls and are tasked with bringing joy and holiday cheer to its residents through the use of their magic. The Christmas Sprites stories are best read in order because Blake has created a flow from one series book to the next. The stories move fast, and the romances resolve quickly (and somewhat abruptly), while the story for the next series installment begins to play out in the final pages.
Nyall had minimal steam, and Oberon has almost none. However, the story works quite well without it (well, unless the steam is what you came for 🤣). Oberon’s story is all small-town, festive, holiday vibes, quirky townsfolk and even quirkier town traditions, and plenty of humor, cuteness, happiness, and love. The Sprites’ magic is still wonky, and we apparently aren’t going to get an answer to that mystery until the third or fourth book. However, Blake adeptly handles the fated mates trope with the magnetic, undeniable attraction between Oberon and Miles, two sweet, endearing men that are adorable together, especially when you round out the family unit with Miles’ daughter Holly and their dog Ivy. Blake also amps up the humor factor, especially in the interactions with Oberon’s cousin Linus, which had me laughing out loud.
Oberon is an enjoyable, short, sweet holiday romance. Despite the speed of Oberon and Miles’ relationship and of the story itself, the storyline didn’t feel overly rushed. I hope we see more of them in the next book, Eldon. Recommended.
