BLURB:
Asher Kaufman could use a miracle. But first he’ll have to believe they exist.
Ash is single, strapped for cash, and burned out from his work at a nonprofit. Everyone else’s holiday spirit leaves him feeling like he’s in the wrong movie.
Then strange, thoughtful gifts begin appearing outside his door: a rustic basket filled with pinecones and acorns, and a beautiful handmade scarf in Hannukah colors. But the most wonderful gift of all comes when he meets Clay, his secret admirer, a beautiful young man who happens to be a fairy who lives in the wooded wonderland behind the duplex where Ash lives.
Clay brings warmth and magic into Ash’s dreary life–but when the realities of the human world threaten the bridge to fairyland, it will take all Ash’s faith to bring about a happy-ever-after that will work for everyone.
REVIEW:
Ash is a lovely young guy who is doing his best. He has an apartment he likes and a job at a nonprofit that he loves because he’s helping people. He looks for the best in people and is rewarded by their successes. The one thing he doesn’t have is someone to love and who loves him. He’s lost his parents and while he has siblings and nieces and nephews he is a bit lonely.
Then he happens upon a new coffeehouse while he’s avoiding running into the ex and his new BF. He’s surprised by the owner and the clientele, but in a good way. He can’t figure out why he’s never seen this particular place before, but he really enjoys the ambience and the perfect food and drink. It’s unusual that the owner won’t let him pay, but he does a favor for her that she asks and all is well.
Things take a turn when he’s out shopping and runs into – literally – the most attractive young man. He doesn’t know what to make of that. Then there are the little gifts that keep appearing on the table outside his apartment. Finally when the young man appears at his home, things get really strange. But I’m not sharing any more 😉 You’ll have to read it to find out all the secrets. Trust me – it’s worth it 😀
Oh my! This story just hit all my buttons. A lovely Hanukkah story. Faeries. Portland, OR, my favorite city in the country. I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect from this tale, but I loved everything about it. Ash, our protagonist who has been through a recent breakup is such a good guy. Zeke and Troy his landlords are so encouraging and trustworthy. Clay is such a treasure – as are his friends. I absolutely loved the twists and turns of this quite unusual faerie story. Ms. Fielding is such a wonderful writer and I absolutely adore her ventures into the magical, mystical and fantastical worlds she builds. She is an auto-buy for me and this is another example of why. If you’re ready to take a lovely trip into an unknown and impossible world that leads to a lovely happy ending, you’ll really enjoy this one. Happy Hanukkah too!
