A Boy for All Seasons Novel
Matthew Angel is stuck. He’s 41 and spent his life denying who he is and what he truly wants—until he stumbles upon a unique offering at a specialty charity auction:
A Christmas Daddy experience.
Erik Garner has given up on relationships. After his last boy left, he decided it’s better to skip the heartache and stick with casual, short-term contracts. His offer of an exclusive, one-night-only Christmas encounter is all he’s willing to give.
Matthew’s older than expected, but his shy smile and eager surrender charm Erik. What starts out as a business transaction quickly gives way to a wild, thrilling intensity neither expected.
One night isn’t enough.
Good thing there’s a blizzard on the way…

CHAPTER FOUR
Erik
We move on next to a painting, this one is by a different artist. It’s a fiery work of orange, red, and pink. Matthew stares at it, crossing his arms over his chest, his jaw tightening.
“You don’t like it?” I ask.
“It’s good,” he answers, but he’s tense again. If it’s not the painting eliciting this in him, it must be me. This won’t do.
“Something got you worried?”
Glancing back again to make sure the gallery employee is still out of earshot, he nods. It’s adorable how shy he is. I want to protect that part of him. It’s endearing.
“Out with it,” I tell him, using my firm, Daddy voice. It does the trick.
He capitulates, sending me a worried glance before lifting his chin and saying, “You should know I didn’t go into that charity auction looking for this, or for you, or, well, looking for anything at all.”
We step over to the next painting. It’s similar to the last, but in purple, gray, and pink.
“I see. Why were you at the charity auction? I admit I’ve been curious.”
I recognize it might be easier for him to continue to open up without being literally face-to-face, the act of studying the art is a good buffer. The intensity of our conversation in the coffee shop isn’t something he seems eager to rekindle quite yet, and that’s fair. We both need some breathing room after how raw that became, and this more businesslike discussion is worthwhile, too.
When Matthew doesn’t answer right away, I say, “Asheville is a long way from Nashville, and while the Blue Ridge chapter has a good reputation, I know if you wanted to explore kink you didn’t have to come this far. Nashville has several stellar kink clubs.”
Moving on to a concrete sculpture of a boot with black painted roses blooming from the sole, Matthew’s arms tighten across his chest as he whispers, “I wasn’t in Asheville for the kink club at all. I was there for a business conference. I missed my flight, and given the current economy, renting a car to drive back was going to be almost as expensive as another night in the hotel and taking a discount airline’s flight home the next day. Not to mention a lot more strenuous.”
I can see it all: Matthew, frustrated and tired, returning from the airport after missing his flight.
“I see. You were staying at the hotel, got a little bored, and noticed an interesting BDSM convention going on in the conference area, complete with an open-to-the-public kink auction, and you thought, ‘Hell yeah, looks like fun.’”
“Yes. Well, maybe not fun. More like interesting. Because until that night I’d never thought of myself as kinky.” He blushes, and I’m amused.
There’s nothing as delicious to me as when a new boy shows his true colors for the first time, and Matthew’s flying them for me now, as uncomfortable as it might be for him, and as frightened as he is. Deep down, he’s excited. I sense it in him and echo it in myself.
He continues, “I’m sure that sounds weird given how badly I’ve let myself be treated by men. But even that never felt kinky because I didn’t like it. What I’m saying is I never wanted to be kinky. I would like you to understand that.”
“Does the idea of kink upset you?”
“No.”
I place my hand on his lower back, supporting him. “And if it turns out you are kinky—like really kinky—will it scare you?”
“I don’t know. Maybe. I’m still just trying to be gay. Like out and gay.”
