Some days, fighting crime, just doesn’t pay.
FBI Profiler, Leo Reeves, has settled into his new job and his new life in Los Angeles. Working with Max Prince every day in the office is fulfilling but not as satisfying as burning up the sheets with him every night at home. Their first case together as partners resulted in the bad guys either behind bars or six feet under, but neither man thinks they’ve completely put an end to the murderous ring. As time goes on, and they interview the stragglers they managed to arrest, the agents realize a much larger organization is at work.
Could a criminal mastermind be controlling multiple cells of murderers?
When one of their team is gunned down in a senseless mass shooting, all bets are off. Leo and Max are fueled by a new motive…rage. As more corpses from their first case are identified, new information about the ring begins to emerge. Worse yet, when they realize copycats are mirroring the work of famous serial killers, things get gruesome. For Leo, working as a profiler has always been his passion but he starts to rethink everything when one copycat begins skinning his victims.
When they connect the gunman to a criminal biker gang, things get even nastier.
Worst of all, an old nemesis of Snow and McCallahan suddenly resurfaces when they stumble onto a scene staged to look like a horror movie…a real-life horror movie. When the case begins to threaten Leo’s sanity, Max’s protective instincts kick in, big time. He wants his lover safe in his arms and away from reminders of the past. From the MDC in downtown L.A. to the scorching deserts around Victorville, this case simply must end…right?
REVIEW:
I have waited eagerly to get more of Leo and Max and I must say I am growing very fond of them really quickly.
Leo and Max are settling in to being partners at work along with roommates with major benefits in the evenings as well. When a mass shooting puts Lincoln and Leo’s lives in danger Max realizes that Leo is even more than a good partner and fun time roommate. When Leo’s dad’s dark history starts repeating itself with a copycat serial killer Leo is not only at risk physically but his emotional well being is taking a giant hit. Max knows he has to protect Leo because he realizes that Leo means more to him than he realized. But Leo is determined to not let his Dad’s gruesome past stand in the way of his career. But can he emotionally stand this when it becomes so personal? And is the killer targeting Max because of him?
DARK…this book is really dark! I expect some blood and gore when it comes to the ATF, FBI and LAPD officers that Patricia Logan has captured our attention with over the last several years. All her men are up to the challenge of taking down the worst of the worst and they are working together to take these disgusting and vile maggots down. Especially when one of their own’s life is almost taken. But cold-hearted psychopathic copycat serial killers and a disgusting bike gang that captures the victims for them…this has risen to an all new level of evil! And our favorite guys are determined to take care of this once and for all.
I am thrilled that we got to see so many of my favorites characters from parallel book series . Getting to see Mike and Cassidy is always a treat. And I’m really starting to connect with Lincoln Snow’s extraordinary new team of FBI agents. They are all hand picked by Snow himself and the best of the best. But my favorite extra bonus was getting to see my Thayne and Jarrett. Knowing that Leo and Max are becoming friends with them gives me great comfort. As they all continue to become good friends you know they will definitely have each other’s back. All those guys are true blue and would do anything for those they consider their friends.
Even though there are parts of this story that will disturb you it is comforting to know that these men and women depicted are examples of the amazing heroes that put their lives on the line day on and day out protecting us from som of the most vile and inhumane people out there. I know for a fact that Patricia Logan researches endlessly her stories so they are as true and believable as possible.
You are in for one heck of a ride with this one so buckle up and hang on tight.
