Sutton
Jasper’s been my best friend my whole life. From losing my family when I was young, to living together and running our business, it’s always been me and Jasp. I feel more for him than I should, but confessing the truth would be the first step to losing him.
Our lives are so entwined, it’s hard to tell where one of us ends and the other begins. It’s killing me more each day to be this close to him and not be able to call him mine, so when it hurts too much, the only choice is to walk away.
Jasper
My life is perfect. I have my family, my business, and my best friend. But when Sutton starts pulling away, everything changes, and it’s ripping me apart, forcing me to admit hard truths—that I feel different when he touches me; that I need him always by my side.
The thing is, I’m in love with Sutton, and apparently he feels the same. Loving Sutton is as easy as breathing, yet knowing my parents won’t accept us, not with all the backward things they raised me to believe, makes each day a struggle.
But one thing I know for sure—the world doesn’t make sense if Sutton and I aren’t together. We’ve had a million little moments to prove it. And to be the man he deserves, I have to fight for him, for us, and maybe that means fighting for myself too.
REVIEW:
A Million Little Moments, the second book in the Inevitable series, features best friends to lovers and dual bisexual awakenings themes.
Sutton and Jasper have been best friends for more than two decades. When his whole family died in an accident, Sutton moved in with his uncle Brian, and Jasper’s family took care of him also, as if he were a second son. Jump to the present day and the men are still best buds living in Jasper’s cabin he built on his parents’ property. They both date women but neither is in any rush to settle down. Jasper’s parents, however, are anxious to get their twenty-six year old son married off and starting on grandchildren. They regularly apply pressure and take part in annoying, pushy matchmaking.
Both Sutton and Jasper generally love their lives but Sutton is feeling something’s missing and he’s lonely. He’s recognizing he has always had feelings for Jasper. He’s afraid to say anything, though, because he doesn’t want to risk their friendship. His coping mechanism is to pull away and spend less and less time with Jasper. He has to find a way to get over his best friend; Jasper can’t be the center of his world anymore. As the men grow further apart over a period of six months, Jasper had no idea what’s wrong with Sutton, just that he’s pulling away and isn’t himself.
I’ve been kindly provided with an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I generally enjoy Riley Hart’s books so it pains me to say this one did not work for me. After reading other reviews it’s clear this is a “me” issue as I’m pretty much alone in my views.
While I like slow burns, the overall pace was sluggish and dragged out the sexual aspect of the book. The sexual exploration seemed mechanical and repetitious. While there was a strong emotional connection between Sutton and Jasper, I didn’t feel the same about their sexual chemistry. I’m probably the only reader who thinks this way, so take my opinion with a whole shaker of salt.
On a more positive note, I enjoyed Sutton and Jasper as characters and was pleased to revisit the town of Ryland and catch up with Sam and Emerson. The time line of this book overlaps with their book, Only for the Weekend. If you give it a try, I hope you enjoy the book more than I did. I still love Riley’s writing and look forward to her future novels.
