Gearing up for his first holiday season as the new owner of his family’s restaurant, Reid has his work cut out for him. His small resort town is a destination location, but the reappearance of the high school bully who returns every year is not the way Reid wants to start the holidays. Especially given that Grant was the first boy he’d ever loved, and the one boy who’d broken his heart.
Returning home for the holidays every year is never fun. The memories of who Grant used to be lurk around every corner. With little to no relationship with his family, Grant plans to spend his holidays eating pie and skiing. But running into the one man Grant has never apologized to changes the course of his visit. And his life.
Can Reid and Grant mend fences and move past the hurtful high school bet that tore them apart? Can they put the past behind them to see the future that lies ahead?
Grant My Wish is a 44K word standalone novella that features bully redemption, small town vibes, hurt/comfort, holiday wishes come true, and a HEA.
REVIEW:
Grant and Reid went to HS together in their small mountain resort town. Grant did something that was pretty unforgiveable to Reid for a bet and humiliated and hurt him quite deeply. He never apologized, left town and comes back from Seattle, where he is a very successful businessman, each holiday for a perfunctory visit with his family. This year though, he suddenly decides that he wants to make amends with Reid – and that he want Reid back after Reid confesses to having loved him in HS over a rather frosty ski session.
Grant assumes that he can just “woo” Reid and get him to love him again. Nothing about him loving Reid. Turns out Grant has a LOT of issues – with his family, but mostly with himself. He’s successful but he regresses whenever he returns home and turns back into the jerk he was in high school. He has no relationship with his parents and he struggles with reaching out to Reid authentically. Luckily for him, Grant is a forgiving and accommodating man 😉 Despite a distinct lack of encouragement from friends and his only family, Reid does give him a chance. He can see the cracks in Grant’s walls and well he did love him once.
Grant really wants to make things work with Reid. He’s got some ideas up his sleeve as he tries to make amends with his family. Both families want them to be happy, but let’s say there is some health skepticism 😉 Luckily there are some things that can’t be denied and things do change for the better 🙂
Honestly this story was enjoyable once I got past my deep dislike of Grant. Did he do a pretty fast 180? Yes. Did I think Reid should have probably been more careful with his heart? Of course. But you know sometimes the Christmas spirit just gets in the way and makes all things seem possible. I probably wouldn’t have made Grants work a little harder to atone for his past mistakes, but honestly the guy was beating himself up plenty. He needed a good therapist for sure. Overall this was a sexy, sweet and uplifting story about how people can change and sometimes a second chance is worth it. Recommended.
