TITLE: Christmas on Firefly Hill
AUTHOR: Garrett Leigh
PUBLISHER: Fox Love Press
LENGTH: 205 pages
RELEASE DATE: December 1, 2022
BLURB:
The single dad and the rootless vagabond. Expect: a shy, hunky firefighter and an ethereal dancer down on his luck. A sizzling contemporary MM age-gap holiday romance. Mild hurt-comfort, found family, and friends-to-lovers galore.
Firefighter Logan Halliwell doesn’t have much time for romance. A relentless work-life-balance and an expensive divorce have sucked the festive cheer from his days. All he wants is to be a good dad. A fun dad. Especially at Christmas.
He doesn’t know how lonely he is until he meets Remy Collins, a gorgeous fire dancer at a sultry summer festival.
Their instant connection blows his mind, but their fleeting encounter is over before Logan can catch his breath. One kiss and they’re strangers again. That wicked brush of lips nothing but a dream.
Long months pass. Then fate brings them together again at the summit of Firefly Hill, and absence has only strengthened the current thrumming between them. The heat. The precious chance of true happiness they both so desperately need.
Only fear stands in their way.
And Logan’s dangerous job.
It takes a tough lesson and a dose of winter magic to learn that loving each other means Christmas all year round.
REVIEW:
“How do you make me feel so much when you’re hardly touching me?” Because there’s something between us I can’t explain. That no one can. It’s a biological, spiritual reaction that can’t be contained. And I’m not going to try.
Tis the season for holiday romances and Christmas on Firefly Hill is one of the best I’ve read this year. This is a fantastic Christmas love story with wonderful characters, an interesting plot, and lots of steam. While it’s low angst – an anomaly for Garrett Leigh – it’s full of delicious feels.
Logan, a quiet firefighter, is the single father to darling twin boys, Sam and Billy. They bring magic to his life and to the book. But he’s kind of living in a haze, so lonely when the boys are with their mom. He’s tired of empty one night stands.
Remy is a much younger fire dancer who meets Logan at a summer festival and the connection is instantaneous. Unfortunately, they only have time to share a single kiss in the rain but it makes a big impact. They know they’ll probably never see each other again but they can’t stop thinking about that kiss.
Remy is a vagabond living day to day. He lives in his van, which is a lark in mild weather but in late autumn – where the book jumps to – #vanlife is not so much fun in the cold weather. Remy is a shell of himself after an injury changed the trajectory of his life. For the time being he can’t dance and is barely getting by with little income.
When Remy and Logan encounter each other again, the strong attraction is still there. Logan is so far gone when he watches Remy interact with Sam and Billy, and when the boys are away, Remy fills the void. His need for Remy is so strong – he’s bereft when Remy’s not in his house or bed, missing the man deeply. He wants a forever with Remy but he’s afraid Remy doesn’t want a future together so he’s afraid to get too close.
Remy has never been so attracted to someone before; Logan’s affection brings him back to the land of the living. He doesn’t want to depend on anyone so he navigates their growing relationship carefully. One thing that can’t be questioned is the primal chemistry they share.
I liked that Leigh included firefighting action in the book. It made Logan and Remy’s feelings more real in light of the fear and danger.
Fun fact: Logan’s twin brother is none other than Locke from Forgive Me Father in the Rebel Kings series.
This is a holiday romance with substance. While I thoroughly enjoy fluffy Christmas stories, I really leaned into the deeper emotions this book evokes. There hasn’t been a Garrett Leigh book I wasn’t wowed by and Christmas on Firefly Hill is no exception. Logan and Remy are fantastic and those lovely twin boys are scrumptious. You can’t go wrong with this read. Highly recommended.
