AUTHOR: A.J. Truman
PUBLISHER: Truman Books
LENGTH: 279 pages
RELEASE DATE: November 29, 2022
BLURB:
My arch nemesis is my new fake boyfriend. Can you say drama?
I should be a glitter bomb of excitement about my college friends getting married. But all I can think about is running into my uber-successful ex and his new boyfriend at the wedding…while I’m flying painfully solo.
I need a plus one, stat. Enter Raleigh Marshall.
As luck (or misfortune) would have it, a picture of me and South Rock High’s too-blessed-to-be-stressed football coach accidentally finds its way on social media, making people believe we’re an item.
Raleigh is hot, charming, and one of South Rock’s most popular teachers. The problem is that he knows it. He also seems to derive a twisted pleasure from getting under my skin.
Yet once we stop bickering long enough to have a conversation, I have a hard time remembering what I hated about him.
Pretending to be in love with Raleigh Marshall will be my toughest role to date. But…am I still pretending?
Drama! is an enemies-to-lovers, fake boyfriend, theater nerd/football jock romance filled with humor, heart, and hot guys. Everett and Raleigh will put the A-plus in HEA, and like all good students, there’s no cheating. It’s the second book in the South Rock High series, which revolves around a found family of nerdy gay high school teachers, but can be read as a standalone.
REVIEW:
Note: This is the second book in this series and contains major spoilers for the first book. Read out of order at your own risk 😉
Theater Teacher Everett Calloway hates sports. He’s not too keen on sports coaches/teachers either. But he especially not keen on Raleigh Marshall, head football coach and PE teacher at his high school. In fact, he’s his nemesis. He can’t get a decent play put on, but he’s been to 7 pep rallies so far. On top of that, he’s been invited to his college BFFs lesbian wedding and he desperately needs a plus one. His ex (whos’ not on Broadway) and his understudy BF are coming – so he CANNOT be the lonely single.
Everett’s attempts to find a fake boyfriend fail. He’s left with really no other choice and Raleigh it is. Well you can imagine that hijinks ensue. Hilarity and a surprising amount of friendship and commeraderie and UST ensue.
OK, I might have even laughed more with this book than the previous one! Raleigh’s insistence in riling up Everett is hilarious. His zingers are so perfect. I laughed out loud far too many times in this one. As they get to really know each other, things get both more funny and more tender 😀 Both of these guys are a lot more than meets the eye. Raleigh is far from the happy go lucky guy he appears to be from the surface. I really enjoyed how it turned out that these two opposites had a lot more in common than they thought. The other teachers continue to support their friends and there is even a glimpse of crossover from Truman’s Single Dads series. If you are a fan of enemies to lovers, hilarious banter and snark and fun and unexpected situations, then I think you’ll love this one. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough 😀 Highly recommended.
