The Bard and the Fairy Prince by Amanda Meuwissen
Tales from the Gemstone Kingdoms, Book 3
When Prince Nemirac learns of his heritage, he vows to become the most powerful demon in history. But he can’t do it alone.
Feeling betrayed by his parents’ lies about his true lineage, Nemirac embarks on a quest to visit all five Gemstone Kingdoms and drain the stones of their power to ascend as a new being. But until he obtains that magic, he’s vulnerable.
Enter Janskoller the warrior bard.
Janskoller has just returned to the Gemstone Kingdoms, drawn by stories of broken curses and lands open for travel. He doesn’t expect a pretty young mage to hire him as a bodyguard, but it’s a good gig for a bard—lots of adventure to fuel his stories, and plenty of travel to spread his fame. Besides, Nemirac’s passion and obvious secrets intrigue him. But soon Janskoller realizes the peril of Nemirac’s goal—an end that puts the five kingdoms at risk and corrupts Nemirac into a darker, twisted version of the man Janskoller has come to care about. As the two grow closer, can Janskoller convince Nemirac to abandon his pursuit of power in favor of the deeper, more lasting magic of love?

“Look,” Janskoller said, “will it do the trick of hiding your distinct appearance?”
“Clearly.”
“Then you’re welcome.”
With the last tie of his shirt undone, Janskoller pulled it over his head and turned around. The way Nemirac’s mouth dropped open and the anger faded from his expression was hard to miss.
Janskoller was hearty and well-muscled with what he considered the perfect addition of softness in places as a sign that he enjoyed life and rarely denied himself anything he wanted, whether food, drink, or company. Nemirac was a graceful slip of a man who seemed like he had yearned but never known such a powerful contrast to engulf him.
Moving a hand very slowly down his body to the ties of his trousers, Janskoller watched Nemirac’s eyes follow his fingers as he began to pull the end of the string.
“Th-the least you can do is wait until I leave!” Nemirac sputtered and turned sideways to look away.
“No one said you had to look,” Janskoller countered and pulled the string loose, releasing his trousers to fall to the floor. He wore nothing beneath and stepped out of them casually, quite boldly nude, having already removed his boots. Though he waited a beat, Nemirac did not steal a peek, though he had to be able to see the hint of naked profile in his periphery.
Chuckling low, Janskoller moved to lower himself into the steaming water of the bath. Now that was bliss.
“Don’t enjoy yourself too much in there,” Nemirac muttered with a waver in his voice.
Janskoller had moaned, perhaps a little too lewdly.
He did it again.
“Urg,” Nemirac groused once more, and Janskoller could hear him moving about the room behind him, opening the wardrobe and rummaging through it.
