Maverick “Mackey” Keyes keeps the rodeo cowboys safe on his watch and he knows how to make his bullfighting team walk the line. He might be starting to feel his years, but he’s a pro, and he’s not afraid of anything that might happen on the arena floor.
Sidney Scott knows how to go with the flow, so when his dream job passes him by, he grabs the chance to work the bull riding circuit as a TV producer. He’s going to do the job right, traveling with the show, even if he hears some rumbling from the riders.
Mackey and Sid butt heads more than once, but when it really counts, they manage to get on the same page. When Mackey is injured, Sid steps up to help, and things take a far more personal turn. They might have been able to ignore the growing attraction between them at work, but a long road trip over the Christmas holiday and time away from the other cowboys lets them find something together that neither of them expect, but both of them need.
Cowboy Protection is an opposites attract, rodeo romance featuring a bullfighter and a corporate suit, with a side of holiday magic.
REVIEW:
I honestly never knew that the guys that save the bull riders on the rodeo circuit when they fall off were called bullfighters. I thought that the bullfighters were only the guys that wave the red capes in the white suits in Spain and Mexico. I also thought that they were rodeo clowns dressed. Got that wrong too. But when I googled Cowboy Protection all kinds of wild and scary videos popped up. I guess it’s never too late to teach an old dog new tricks!
Mackey keeps his crew safe. That his job as heal bull fighter for his team. Those men were his brothers although no of them were related by blood. But they were definitely his chosen family and he would do anything to protect and take care of his men…and his body shows the scars to prove it! Sid is learning a new game. He thought his job was in the bag to be the man in charge of the cameramen on his way to the Olympics but life likes to throw a curve ball now and then. So here he is learning Rodeo and being the suit in charge of the cameramen for bull riding. It’s obvious there is a huge disconnect between his crew, the rodeo cowboys and bullfighters there to protect the riders when they fly off the bulls. Now he is on fast track learning to not only navigate the filming but how to interact with the men charged with life or death decisions in a blink of an eye.
This was a quick read, fast romance. But being part of the rodeo makes you have to think quick on your feet and quick to act. Both guys, Mackey and Sid, endeared me immediately. Mackey couldn’t help but hook you with his bravery and determination to protect those closest to him. He really fit the mother name to a tee. His poor broken body really shouldn’t be bullfighting any more but his fierce protective nature made him leaving too hard. I hope that soon Sid will convince him they need to be at their ranch and be gentlemen cowboys. If anyone can teach the city boy it’s Mackey.
I hope that we get Jack’s story next. He and Mackey weren’t a good fit together but he needs his HEA also and hopefully we get a few moments to catch up with Mackey and Sid.
