What do I do when a drool-worthy stranger steals my car?
Okay, so it’s not my car. But that’s not the important part. I’m currently hiding in the back seat from my carjacker-possible-psycho-killer, trying to ignore his sexy scent, lumberjack shoulders, and obnoxious singing.
And I think he knows I’m here.
Accidental Detour is a 17,000-word gay romance full of questionable decisions, attempts at holiday cheer, an unexpected road trip, and a car named Stella. This humorous Christmas story is a stand-alone with a HEA.

REVIEW:
Jonas is the next to the youngest of 7 siblings. His younger sisters are twins and it’s their birthday. He’s had enough of peopling, so he sneaks off to get some space and ends up in the back of his sister Peyton’s VW bug under his favorite blanket. When next he wakes up, someone – who is NOT his sister – is driving away in the car and he’s a hostage in the back seat. Well that’s his version anyway 😉
Zane, Jonas’s would-be kidnapper/car jacker, is not not Jonas thinks he is. First, he knows Jonas’s name. Second he knows this is Peyton’s car. Turns out that there is a reason he’s “stealing” the car and it has to do with Peyton and her ex and not Jonas at all. Zane is kinda happy that he gets to spend time with Jonas though. Turns out that Jonas and Zane are really into each other and despite a rocky start, there may just be something more than kidnapper/kidnappee between them 😉
This is an adorable forced proximity, mistaken identity, road trip story that is full of heart and humor. It’s a super quick listen and I really enjoyed it 🙂 It’s got a holiday theme as many elements of the story take place around Christmas. The story is told in alternating POVs which was really helpful. Jonas is HILARIOUS! His internal monologue is sweet and funny although not without it’s touching and heartbreaking moments. Zane is a really good guy and he’s a bit infatuated with Jonas. He just hopes he has a shot.
This is the first audio I’ve heard from Kevin Earlywine and I really enjoyed it! His voice choices seems right on target for the younger Jonas and the older Zane. The voices for the other characters, both male and female were very distinct and well done. The performance kept me engaged and I found myself laughing at Jonas and his mental gymnastics quite a few times.
If you’re looking for a short and sweet holiday story with low angst, some humor and a guaranteed HEA, this story is a good choice.
