Unnecessary Roughness by Rheland Richmond & Emerson Beckett
The Package Deal Series, Book 3
Jackson Kincaid
When my childhood best friend and I escaped a potentially miserable life in our small southern hometown to attend the University of Georgia, I thought I’d finally be able to live my life the way I’d planned. I’d go to school on a football scholarship and get my degree to become a veterinarian. But when the NFL came calling, how could I say no to millions of dollars? I’d put my plans on hold for a while, along with finding the right man for me.
But life doesn’t always go as we plan.
When Allison was killed in a car accident, I suddenly became the only parent to my ten-year-old godson. How would I play football for the Portland Pirates and be a full-time single dad?
I’d have to adjust. And thanks to my friends, and the badass team doctor, we’d heal and make it through. Did I mention he’s my best friend and that I can’t stop thinking dirty thoughts about him naked?
Unfortunately, keeping our relationship a secret is not the only obstacle we’ll face.
Simon Taylor
My training as a Navy doctor prepared me to assess injuries on the fly and deal with all kinds of situations. Emotions and feelings had no place in medicine during an emergency. Determine the problem and fix it. Or find someone who could. As my new friends liked to call me, I was the badass team doctor.
I wasn’t prepared for the passionate feelings I didn’t know I had for Jackson to surface while helping him deal with losing his friend and taking custody of her son. But feelings and emotions were what I had for both of them.
But life has a way of unfolding the way it’s supposed to. I’m a believer in things happen for a reason. It doesn’t matter that our relationship might be forbidden. I want to get sweaty and naked with him.
Jackson and I deserve to be together no matter how rough things get. I just had to convince him of that.
Unnecessary Roughness is the friends-to-lovers story in the third book of the Package Deal Series.

Chapter 9- Kitchen Tension
The silence between us felt weighted. There was a tension I’d never noticed before. I shifted my gaze to Simon, who stood against the kitchen counter looking at me. His shirt sleeves were rolled up like mine to expose his forearms as he gripped the edge of the countertop.
My heart began to hammer in my chest as his brown eyes peered into my blue ones. Simon pushed off the counter, then walked toward me. I couldn’t take my eyes off him.
He stopped a few inches in front of me and put his hands on my shoulders, his gaze never leaving mine. Was he going to kiss me? Oh god, please let him kiss me.
“You’ve got to find a way to relieve some of the tension running through your body. Tight muscles will be hell on you when we get to practice in a couple weeks.”
I swallowed hard and swore he had to hear my pulse throbbing. “What do you suggest I do to relieve my stress, doc?”
Simon looked at me with a new fire in his eyes. “Swimming laps, of course. Go get changed. I’m going to challenge you to a lap race.”
The smirk he wore as he walked off laughing made me want to kiss it off him, but I didn’t. I just willed my pulse to calm down and pressed the heel of my palm to the growing erection in my pants. Fucker.
Maybe swimming some laps in the cold water would help cool me off since Simon constantly kept my desire simmering just below the boiling point.
Ten minutes later, I found Simon in the pool swimming laps. His body was illuminated from below the water since the pool lights were the only ones on. His lean, swimmer’s body and strong, wide shoulders cut through the water like a knife through soft butter. It was sexy and well-practiced. The sound of the water flowing over his body was sensual and made me pay attention to things I shouldn’t.
When Simon reached the far side of the pool, his hand slid up the side and grabbed hold of the edge to steady himself before his head popped up. Until now, I’d never paid attention to how sexy swimmers were.
As if he sensed me standing there, Simon turned, wiped his hand over his face, and pushed his hair back. When our eyes locked, a grin split his face.
“You coming in, Jackson, or are you just gonna stare at me all night?”
God fucking damn! His words were…well, I don’t know what they were. Did he hear himself?
Time to turn up the cocky jock. “I am, old man. Ready to be schooled by a professional athlete?”
Simon tilted his head back when he laughed as if it were the funniest joke ever. His throat was exposed, and his Adam’s Apple bobbed. I wanted my mouth on it. Wanted to make him squirm and moan.
I was making myself hard just thinking about his body. Time to get my dick under control and jump in the cold water. I really hoped it helped.

Rheland Richmond:
For as long as she can remember Rheland’s had her nose stuck in a book, getting lost in the world of someone else’s creation (She still does). Her love for writing came from her love for reading. She could never have one without the other.
Writing has always been a hobby and a cathartic experience for her. There are many stories lost to the never to be completed or published pile but needed to be written at the time.
She’s just a girl that loved stories so much she wrote hers.
Rheland would love to hear from her readers and learn more about Y’all. So if you get a chance… please get in touch.

Emerson Beckett:
Who is Emerson Beckett? That’s a good question.
I’m a retired educator who loves all things romance and an avid reader and consumer of well-written M/M romance books.
My journey to becoming an author started with an idea I had one night while I sat reading on my sofa. That idea became an email that ultimately resulted in me editing for three wonderfully talented M/M romance authors. The third referral led to an opportunity to co-write with one of the most genuine and kindest people I’ve ever had the pleasure to know. (She’s my co-author for Quarterback Keeper.)
I’m a wife and a mother of three beautiful adults, one of which is trans and responsible for my love of this genre. All three have since left us with an empty nest that is now full of pets.
Emerson would love to hear from her readers. So if you get a chance… Get in touch.
