Marley Jacobs is dead, and Max Masters Scrooge has no time for the sob story of the grieving son. Even if Jacobs Jr. is kinda cute—for a nerd.
Daniel Jacobs is anxious, drifting, and lonely. His gut tells him he’s overdue for a dose of self-care, but the thought of setting foot in a gym gives him hives. Though he craves gentle guidance, what he gets is the heavy hand of the gym’s head trainer and sleaziest playboy, Max Masters.
Accustomed to topping the leaderboard, among other things, Max sells Daniel on his gold package. After things get steamy in the locker room showers, Max is ready to make like a ghost and vanish, as usual. But this time, he won’t get away with his selfish antics, not if a vengeful past hookup with a powerful uncle has anything to say about it.
M.M. Scrooge is a spicy hot horror retelling of A Christmas Carol, as part of the collaboration Monsters & Mayhem: A horror collection adapting some of your favorite classics with an MM romance twist. Content warnings inside.
REVIEW:
Max is not a nice guy. He has his reasons but being kind of a douche is just who he is. Until someone…or something…decides that he can be a better human.
Or else!
Daniel is sweet and kind and his grief over his father’s loss makes him determined to do better with his own health. Maybe he should have been smarter about Max, but the man was sheer perfection and it was so easy just to go with the flow.
I’ll be honest, Max was not an easy guy to like. Even after his first couple of lessons, his ego and his insecurity made him kind of an asshole.
We all know how the story goes. Jerk gets a second chance to be a decent guy but it takes a few slaps up the back of the head for him to realize how desperately he needs to change. Lee Colgin does a pretty good job of coming up with some “interesting” ways of teaching Max a better way.
I like the premise. It’s actually an original take on an old favorite and it could have been really great but I didn’t like how sex kind of took over the whole story. Its a shorter story, and it would have benefitted from a little more story-telling and a little less…smoke and steam.
Not that the author isn’t great at writing sex. In fact it’s some of the best written sex I’ve read in a long time! It’s just that I would have liked to have gotten to know Daniel a little better. He gets a little lost in the show.
The author is a great story teller. Lee Colgin writes some of my favorite new stories. They pull you through the story, keeping you on your toes and once you get started? You won’t put it down until it’s done.
If smoking hot, steamy, kinky sex is your thing, you will love this book so much. I just happen to like a little more story in my books these days. This is the third book I’ve read in this series, all done by different authors. They take horror stories we all know and put an new spin on them. The three I’ve read have worked out pretty well! Guess I’d better go find some more!
